2017 RealGM Soccer Board Draft- Group A (kdawg32086, CalamityX12, LittleNathan, Ted Lasso)

Post#1 » by kdawg32086 » Sun Jul 9, 2017 1:32 am

The Rules:

1. You will have 24 hours to PM your tactics to Baphomet before each round of polls open (this applies to the second round of fixtures and onwards, don't worry about it for the first polls, we already have the tactics in the thread). If you don't get your match day tactics sent to Baphomet in time, your default formation from the squads thread will be used.
2. Each voter will get 2 votes per poll, one for each matchup per round of polls. Yes, you are allowed to vote for yourself ;)
3. As per standard group stage rules, you will get 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw, and 0 for a loss.
4. Tiebreakers in the group stage are determined thusly in this order: Head-to-head vote differential > overall vote differential (think goal difference) > total votes
5. When the group phase is finished, we enter the last 8 knockout phase, where the winner of Group A will play the runner-up of group B, and vice versa. The winner of Group C will play the winner of Group D, and vice versa.

Jamie Vardy

Sub pattern will see a spring of Vardy and Isak in the later half of the 2nd.

Kompany can be added on for defensive purposes if the lead needs to be protected in the closing minutes.

Both Payet and Pulisic are green to roam and create for 4 speedy players, two of them are solid finishers with the lead in Kane.

Tactics for the matchup against Calamity.

On the attack:
The offensive strategy for my squad is a blend of precision and pace, combining players who are very good on the counter-attack with players who can complete passes with surgical precision to set up scoring opportunities for Lewandoski and Muller as they play off of each other looking to find space. Perisic and Sterling can look to cross into open space or cut inside to put further pressure on Calamity's center backs while my fullbacks Emerson and Semedo overlap on the wings. Pjanic directs traffic from midfield, placing passes into the box for both Lewandowski and Muller, as well as playing long passes to Perisic, Lewandowski, Muller, and Sterling on counter-attacks.

In defense:
My squad will drop into a 4-4-2 (similar to what Juventus used in the CL against Barca) and get more compact to congest the middle (neutralizing DeBruyne), forcing Calamity's squad to play on the wings and forcing his fullbacks who are playing deeper than the CB's to cover a lot of ground going up and down the pitch on the attack. Each line will move left to right in the 4-4-2 as a cohesive unit. Lewandowski and Muller will high press to try and prevent the build-up of any strong attack up the middle, forcing the play outside to Calamity's fullbacks. Thiago Silva will stalk Harry Kane any time he gets close to the box (think Silva marking/harrassing Mbappe in Ligue 1) with Cahill able to assist if needed. Saul will provide some protection for the less defensively minded Pjanic, instigating the counter-attacks. On the wings, Emerson/Perisic on the left, and Semedo/Sterling on the right will play very close together in defense to provide numerical superiority against the attack. IF there are any breakdowns in the defense, the last line of defense is Hugo Lloris.

If trailing late in the game: Plattenhardt will enter the game for Emerson. El Shaarawy will come into the game for Perisic to inject some speed onto the left side and hopefully be able to get behind a tired Juanfran and create scoring opportunities.

If protecting a lead: Gonalons comes into the game for Sterling. Muller goes to the right wing, and Pjanic slides forward, with two DM's playing behind him. With 5 minutes left in the game, Mustafi comes in for Perisic and I play 5 along the back, with two DM's and a flat 3 of Lewandowski, Muller, and Pjanic up front pressing, with a 7 man parked bus behind them and Lloris as the safety valve.

Kick taker: 1) Pjanic, 2) Perisic, 3)Plattenhardt

Ted's team from the squads thread since he hasn't posted it in this thread himself yet, and we need to get a move on:

Kdawg secures all 3 points vs. calamity

A more traditional setup from kdawg should spell an easy 3 points against an extremely attacking oriented and exotic squad choice from calamity. Two small 6s that aren't defensively motivates gives Pjanic the time to pick out a pass. From what I've seen of him, he's at his best with time to pick out a pass. I also am not confident in the chemistry of that defense, but neither side stands out there. Think this is a 2-0 match to the dawg.

Nathan over Lasso

Both of these teams get me rock hard. Absurdly potent attacking 4 that expects the rest of the team to defend (which they can definitely do) against two incredibly pacey wingbacks who can cause all sorts of chaos next to a couple CBs that will have incredible chemistry. This is a tough one, but I have to go with Nathan. You're asking Griez and Costa to do an awful lot in the way of scoring goals as the rest of the team is essentially set up to get the AtleticoBoyz the ball from everywhere on the pitch. Ted would produce great spacing, but not much penetration in the middle and Keita (who's incredible) and Baka are good enough to snuff out low crosses or deny the ball near the 18. The attacking front is quite good too with all 4 being a real goal threat. Tight matchup.

kdawg vs. Calamity

Kdawg built a well balanced team and one that could cause huge problems for Calamity, a matchup like this essentially pegs which set of midfielders will be able to provide good cover for the CBs and quite frankly I trust Saul/Pjanic more than Payet/Pulisic by a fair margin, Pjanic getting the ball and initiating with that front four is a scary proposition. The pace that kdawg has in his attack too will cause so much problems for Calamity's defence especially considering the lack of cover they're already receieving. I would also take Lloris over Ospina 10 times out of 10.

Verdict: kdawg wins.

Little Nathan vs. Ted Lasso

This is a tough one, and again falls on who's midfield do I trust more. Another one of those matchups that could go 50/50 out of 100 simulations and is a dream matchup. The attack of both are very balanced and even, the back 5 of both are solid too. But saying that I will lean towards the midfield of Ted, it's a midfield that is not just very skilful, but also versatile allowing for a lot of fluidity should variety be needed. Koke can come in to midfield to form a three of Koke/Marchisio/De Rossi and use their experience and nouse to overrun Bakayoko/Keita/Alli and this is where I feel this matchup would be decided.

Verdit: Ted Lasso wins.
