Who you got?

Tried to figure out a list, but I'm struggling.

My top 5 is something like:

1. Messi
2. Neymar
3. Ronaldo
4. De Bruyne
5. Kane

I feel like people will have quibbles with that (and no defenders) but I think my mind changes on a daily basis. Salah makes top 15 right now, imo.

Kane over Lewa and Suarez? No.

Kane over Lewa and Suarez? No.

Suarez maybe, but there's not really any reasonable justification for having Lewandowski over Kane at this point in their careers. Lewandowski has the privilege of playing for by far the most stacked team in a league where it's generally easier to score goals, and still scores fewer goals than Kane (by a hair, mind). Harry gets more assists as well. Lewa has had the better career with many more accolades, but I'd take Kane over him any day as a player at this point.

btw none of that is intended as a knock on Lewa, he's an amazing player.

But Kane's been on another planet since the start of 2017.

Ronaldo, Messi, Suarez, Greizman, Oblak, Neymar, Lewandowski, Thiago, Neuer, Dybala, Kane, Salah, Aguero, KDB, De Gea
Off the top of my head, no order.

I always find it amazing that defenders are so rarely considered as great players.

I don't think it's because they aren't considered great players per se, it's just quite hard to measure an individual defender's impact, especially across leagues. With a striker and midfielder you have more tangible metrics. I mean, you can look at clean sheets or challenges won percentage and so forth, but there are so many other factors at play there.

I would say Messi is (still) first, and Neymar would have to be second. I'm not sure where CR7 lands for me, maybe #5. His level of play has certainly picked up in 2018, but he's not as dominant now that he's lost a step. Oblak is the best GK on the planet, and De Bruyne is a cut above in the midfield, so they can be 3 and 4.

I agree that no one really stands out in defense this season; the greats (Chiellini, Kompany, Thiago, Ramos, Pique and Godin) are all on the downslide, and no one younger has really stepped up as a game-changer in the CL or international competition. The Bayern duo are probably the closest to elite, but I don't put HUmmels or Boateng in the top 10.

The names mentioned in here pretty much cut it I think. Can someone make a top 5 defenders list? Make that central defenders. And also a top 5 wing back list, would be interesting IMO.

Seriously no salah anywhere? Nobody playing better in england right now.

Top 5 defenders would be Chiellini Benatia Rugani Barzagli and Umtiti

I like watching city. But you gotta work on your math skills only kevin is in this class right now. Sure foreign money and loaded team, but salah is a one man wrecking crew
