Wow…massive news!

I knew Barça was in serious financial trouble, but I didn’t think that it would lead to Messi leaving the club.

I can’t imagine the short and long-term ramifications this will have on Barça and on the club Messi goes to. Madness!

Sounds like it might be an attempt to put pressure on La Liga.

Still think he's most likely to stay. If not, PSG seems the only option.

Messi is tired of winning so he's joining Spurs, his dream is to play in the Europa Conference League with his idol, Sissoko.

Following figures were mentioned today:
1) Barca players salaries without Messi is 95% of Barca club income.
2) Barca players salaries with Messi would've been 110% of Barca club income even though Messi was supposed to be paid for only 2 of 5 seasons.

Can't help but think they should make a big firesale to restore the clubs finances.
Anyone making more than 5 mil. a year (which is probably 75% of the roster) should be gone sooner than later.
Build a completely new team around Ansu Fati and Pedri.

Barca's had the public marching order for firesale since the summer started right after the CL final, while the huge gap between current spend and budget was probably known since last August when La liga/Tebas estimated a huge budget drop for them. The Athletic had an article by Ornstein exposing the circumstances at the start of summer, and there were some other articles in the Spanish press pointing out the contract burdens. Then Barca got Depay, Aguero, Garcia while showing no hope of addressing their most expensive contract - Griezman.

I'm mostly worried around the implications for the future of la liga, as the league declined in the last few seasons and many of the continental talents like Varane are leaving or poised to leave for places that will pay them on merit. With the budget restrictions, LL's history of being harsh taxers of foreign talent, and Brexit encouraging the English generation to actually go there like Sancho, I'm wondering if/how the league will be able to attract rising WC talents moving forward. Losing Messi, who for all intents is a Spaniard who has been performing at WC in la liga for his whole career, seems to signal more about the decline of LL than about Barca in general.

Also Fati and Pedri's contracts expire next summer, so the next 6 months will be decisive in terms of whether they leave the club or get reinforced through this period of club chaos.

Aguero doesn‘t want to play for Barca now that Messi is gone.

What a mess.

Some say Messi's exit & possible move to PSG directly benefits RM. Now it puts pressure on PSG to sell Mbappe and it pretty much known he only wants to go to RM.

La Liga selling 10% of its rights to some invester CVC or whatever for 50 years really seems an incredibly short sighted move that might hurt them in the long run.

Other than that they will battle with Bundesliga, Serie A and Ligue 1 for 2nd best league. Nobody is going to be able to compete with the money EPL has considering English teams are right now also doing a great job with their own youth.

Seems like the only possible destination for him at this point.

Would be foolish to sell Mbappe for Messi.

Ironically I just read that Mbappe will be so estatic to have Messi there he will re-up with PSG. I don't see how they fit all that payroll under the "Fair Play" rules.

FFP is a joke anyway.

They can just get rid of it and nothing will change.

None of the big teams give a damn about Fair play rules.
