World Cup 2022 qualifiers.

Post#1 » by AK47MVP » Wed Sep 1, 2021 11:03 pm

Surprised we have no thread for it. Please discuss!
Today Denmark easily defeated Scotland 2-0 behind goals from Wass and Maehle. Maehle goal was especially brilliant with great pass from Damsgaard. Danes are leading group with 4 wins in 4 matches and 16-0 goal differential:)

I think that WC qualifiers are a complete waste of time. The top clubs should all qualify automatically and the lesser clubs fight it out for remaining places.

I would go even further and eliminate all national team games except world cup and continental cups EC/Copa/etc.

Instead let the tiny teams participate in the continental cups, too. Group stages would be a waste of time but I dont mind. Knockout games are what it is all about anyway.

Since when national teams are clubs? And how do you prove you are top team if not in qualifiers?

Your record in finals is all that matters. top 16 or top 24 to qualify automatically. I rarely even watch the internationals these days unless it's a finals comp. Still if you think Belgium San Marino is a worthwhile watch do it.

Denmark is one win away from qualifying. 6 wins so far, 22-0 goal differential after destroying Israel 5-0 yesterday.

That would be boring and will never happen. Plus the fact that you made it to top 16 4 years ago does not make you top 16 team in the world at present time.

It's boring now. I'm not interested in seeing England Poland or England Andorra especially when it means that my club players could get injured.

With all the the UEFA matches there are simply too many matches in a season for "top" players.

Tell me what percentage of the TOP 16 clubs from one competition don't make the group stages of the next. It's always the same old same old.

I hate international breaks. Just as when we start to get things going, we are going into another international break.
The game is too globalized now that this international qualifiers are just a relic of the past. Players have to travel every month thousand of miles just to play 2 games, it doesn't make any sense. It disrupts the season way too much, especially for non-european players. Barcelona always had trouble getting past the quarter finals in UCL because MSN were not 100% after a trip to South America.

Football/soccer should adopt a calendar similar to the one in handball. Have all the international games played in the summer(unlike handball that chooses the winter) and basically have just 1 big international "break" at the end of the season. Nobody really watches these games unless their team is either in danger of not qualifying or have a chance to qualify. I don't think neither German or English fans are too thrilled their team playing Malta or Azerbaijan in the middle of the season.

Handball uses the previous tournament as a qualifier with a 2 leg tie for teams that do not qualify automatically. 1 international break in October and that's it.
If people feel that having a final tournament every year is too much, you can have a qualifying tournament every other year.
I doubt anything happens though, unless FIFA/UEFA officials feel there is more bribe to make out of this, since this is all that matters for them. Soccer is notorious for being resistant to reforms, and way too conservative.
