2024-25 UEFA Champions League

Post#1 » by magik9113 » Wed Aug 28, 2024 1:33 pm

Image
The 2024–25 UEFA Champions League league phase will begin on 17 September 2024 and end on 29 January 2025. A total of 36 teams will compete in the league phase to decide the 24 places in the knockout phase of the 2024–25 UEFA Champions League.

Aston Villa, Bologna, Brest and Girona will make their debut appearances since the introduction of the group stage. Brest and Girona will also make their debut appearances in European football. A total of 16 national associations will be represented in the league phase.

This will be the first season with the single-league format, which replaces the group format used until the previous season. With the format change, the number of matches prior to the knockout phase will increase from 96 to 144.

Format
Each team will play eight matches, four at home and four away, against eight different opponents, with all 36 teams ranked in a single league table. Teams will be separated into four pots based on their 2024 UEFA club coefficients, and each team will play two teams from each of the four pots – one at home and one away. The top eight ranked teams will receive a bye to the round of 16. The teams ranked from 9th to 24th will contest the knockout phase play-offs, with the teams ranked from 9th to 16th seeded for the draw. Teams ranked from 25th to 36th are eliminated from all competitions, with no access to the 2024–25 UEFA Europa League.

The new sistem is both unfair and uninteresting as hell.
And with open space for corruption happening.

Wake me up for the 1/16 round.

We'll see how it goes. Nothing was wrong with the old format IMO

Completely agree.

Not having groups, and therefore, each club playing its own different set of matches, doesn't sit right with me.

So Ludovic Ajorque will play Champions League?

Opposing teams aren’t ready for him.
He is so slow that the defense will forget about him…

That was more or less my take-away. You can smell it coming.

Welcome to the Champions League, Kenan Yildiz
Juve up one at home in the first half
EDIT: 2-0 now, Weston McKennie goal. He got the start at CDM today...less than two months ago he was told he has to find a new team. He turned down a transfer to Aston Villa in exchange for Douglas Luiz, who he is starting over today

Defending is optional for Milan.
It's time for 5 refs.

Very happy with Villa's result against Young Boys in our first game back in the upper levels of Europe in 41 years.

Probably should have been a bigger win than 3-0, but nice to keep a clean sheet.

VERY excited to face Bayern at Villa part in just under 2 weeks. Will be a massive challenge, but what an opportunity!!!

To consider where we were 2 years ago, just outside the relegation zone, it's a remarkable turnaround. All credit to the Unai, Monchi and team for their work and to the owners for their trust in the key people to do their job.

Unai's work with our players has improved every single one of them. Tielemans is playing out of his skin, Morgan Rogers will be in England Senior side VERY soon, Ramsey is back to his form pre last season's injury...exciting times, but no doubt there will still be hiccups, as we don't have the squad depth of the elite clubs.
Sometimes a player's greatest challenge is coming to grips with his role on the team

Amazing double save from Raya yesterday to keep that game 0-0 between Atalanta and Arsenal in Bergamo.

A draw at Atalanta is a decent result.
I just like us to be a little more dynamic in attack, especially in the counter attack.
Dare to try something instead of keeping control.

Hopefully a win today. Inter and Sporting away will be tough so we gotta take care of home fixtures.

Just watched Celtic get clowned 7-1 by Dortmund. Some wonderful goals by Adeyemi and Guirassy.

So they added 4 more clubs which probably aren't too competitive.

More lopsided results to ensue.

absolute shenanigans in this Juventus game. We start the game with two key injuries after 12 minutes. Then Di Gregorio gets a red card for the ball skimming his glove just outside the box. I think a no-call would've been just fine. The free kick hits Douglas Luiz hand, PK for RBL.
Moments before all of that, Koopmeiners is about to be on a breakaway and they call a foul against him, when really the RB defender tripped himself.
