The discourse surrounding this year's Ballon d'Or has been daft, hasn't it? It's been a compromised award in which people just vote for their friends since its inception, so I don't really understand the outpouring of grief over Vini Jr. not winning the best player award. Real Madrid's decision to boycott the awards is also probably less to do with that, and more to do with Florentino Perez's ongoing feud with UEFA, who co-organised the event this year, and the footballing world's wholesale rejection of his Super League plans.

Hilariously, they were the ones committing robbery at this event, given that Ancelotti won coach of the year over Xabi Alonso, who as most football fans know, won Leverkusen their first BL title while going invincible in the process.

Rodri is a very worthy winner. Vini would have been too, but I don't think his season was outstanding enough to justify the level of anger we're seeing from fans over Rodri winning.

agreed that Rodri is a worthy winner as things stand.
I understand that it's strange when the likes of Iniesta/Xavi haven't won one, but that's a different time period altogether and therefore irrelevant.
I'd like to see Vini be a superstar with Brazil if he's going to win this award one day.

While Rodri had a fantastic year... I don't think he is a good choice.

It's more than trophies only or playing well. For me it's being decisive in the biggest stages, making plays that not many people can, having a touch of magic in your game or crazy good stats/records.

I can't agree with a guy like Rodri being a Ballon D'Or winner.

Not because of position, I mean Gerrard could have won it as a center midfielder, or Lampard... but for me not Rodri.

I'd say Vini would be a nice choice. I feel it was too early for Lamine, I guess Haaland would be a good choice too, even tough I feel he should have won the previous one.

After having Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Cristiano, Messi, Kaka, Zidane... it just feels awkward that Rodri is a ballon D'Or.

They were touting Martinez as the Ballon d’Or goalkeeper, the best in the world.

Then Spurs scored 4 in the second half.

He's wildly overrated. That isn't to say he's not a great GK, but I do not have him in my top 5

If we're just talking about it being unfair, I wouldn't choose Rodri in a million years but Haaland not winning it last year looks a lot worse for me than this.

Rodri has been the best player in Europe for a few years now, though I think he deserved to win it last year when City did the treble.
It's time for 5 refs.

Not even now worth getting upset about it after seeing Messi gifted it in 2023.
