Cristiano Ronaldo... SOLD!

Post#1 » by Slava » Thu Jun 11, 2009 8:55 am

Manchester United have accepted an £80m offer from Real Madrid for Cristiano Ronaldo.

A statement on the United website confirmed that a deal for the 24-year-old should be completed by the end of the month.

''Manchester United have received a world-record, unconditional offer of £80million for Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid.

''At Cristiano's request - who has again expressed his desire to leave - and after discussion with the player's representatives, United have agreed to give Real Madrid permission to talk to the player.

''Matters are expected to be concluded by 30 June. The club will not comment until further notice.''

Ronaldo has long been a target for the Spanish giants, whose president Florentino Perez vowed earlier this week to do ''everything possible'' to take the 24-year-old to the Bernabeu.

80m quid, OMG OMG OMG. 93m Euro for a single player???

It was rumored for weeks, still I am pretty shocked. Real are now hot candidates to win it all. Kaka and Ronaldo on the same team??? WOW.

Who is ManU going to buy now? They have a super hole now up front, but ENOUGH money to fill it. Ribery?

Ribery's stock is at its inflated best right now so I'd avoid him and rather give Nani a chance to grow with the potential he has shown in previous seasons. If Liverpool really are in the dire situation they are, I wouldn't mind a cheeky bid for Torres.

I just read a couple of ManU boards (redcafe and others) and the reactions are pretty diverse:

"The best footballer of the world has left us, ARGH heartache heartache heartache."
"WOW, 80m quid for one player? Sir Alex is a genius."
"Ronaldo thinks he is bigger than ManU -- screw him."
"How can we replace him? Barring Messi, nobody can replace him."
"He was a superb player but a s***head. He is gone, and now move on."

This probably means that Sir Alex will transfer the "Michael Jordan" role to Wayne Rooney, and Tevez will take the "Scottie Pippen" role from Rooney. Also Nani and Anderson will be forced to take bigger roles.

On the ManU wish list: Ribery, Benzema, Zlatan, David Villa

with the way ManU play they need a winger esque type player..so id go with Ribery...
A out and out striker would also be useful..say Benzema?!?!

As an Arsenal fan..im not sure how I feel about this at the moment

I'm an Arsenal fan too and I'm happy, simply because he's the most annoying player I've ever seen, he cheats, whines, cries and scores so many good goals :)

Anyway, in case anyone needed further proof, he just showed again what a classy guy he is. He turns his back on the team that made him the best player in the world from a useless show pony. Which is also a top two team in the world and which he won every possible trophy and personal accolade with.
I'm not sure he can be replaced by a single player, but 80 million can get you a lot of quality players and they might be better off in the end. So I think it's good for everybody, MU get a huge pile of money, Real get their big name, and we won't have to see his face again and the premiership will be a much better place without him. :D

^^
I agree with that part...I hated Ronaldo..if there was one person I could punch in the face in all sports its him...
But with him out of Man Utd, my hate towards them won't be as strong..haha

80m i think its paid in installments

manutd needs to also get rid of tevez and berbatov (failed experiment)....

manutd should swoop on valencia fc players like david villa + david silva, get another striker in benzema, very good young team....

not that beckham and ronaldo are the same, but i think that manU would take the same step they did when they sold beckham to real madrid and rather than spend it in a superstar they could go after players that are young, talented, with a lot of upside and that can have an impact right away.

i bet pellegrini is more worried than he has ever been.

That's insane. I never thought that someone would give more than 80 mln for a player and Real are spending 160 mln for only two players.

I'm glad I won't have to see Cristina in the premiership anymore. If you've ever heard him talk you would know that he only cares about himself and so this should come as no surprise.

I read on Manchester Untied official board that they will go after Dzeko and Benzema heavily.

AC Milan better hurry up and get Dzeko, but I wouldn't mind having him on United it would be brilliant.

I dont rate Nani at all, he has been a failure at Man Utd and I wouldnt be surprised of Ferguson cut his losses with him. I can see Man Utd using the money to sign Benzema + Ribery.

Use the transfer thread :P

I wonder if he'll live up to the price tag.

It will take sometime to sink in but this will be a boost to both Nani and Rooney. With Ronaldo gone I don't think Sir Alex could play trash like Park and get away with his offensive impotence. He'll start playing two out and out speedy wingers bombing down the wings, assisted on the flanks by Rafael and Evra. Rooney will play in a central role where he is scoring for fun right now and Berbatov will see more of the ball in play making areas. Tevez might be brought back too.

I disagree with the assessment that Nani is a failure. He's just not been given the burn he needs to get a consistent streak going. I remember him holding the fort with some wonder goals when Cristiano was injured at the start of the season but after that the game just became too tactical for Fergie to risk putting him in. I'm pretty sure if given a constant burn and entrusted with enough responsibility, Nani will score around 10 - 15 goals this season. Rooney's tally might finally break the 20s and Berba will add to his tally too.

Re: Youth

Now Sir Alex has never sold a player without a back up plan. It was only the sudden departure of Roy Keane that he had not foreseen. When we lost Beckham he just brought in a 17 year old nobody knew about and turned him into the best in the world. Now he has that talent to work with again in the likes of Rooney, Nani, Anderson, Rafel, Fabio, Ljajic and Macheda. I'm pretty sure these guys will make great footballers and while they might not have the same impact as the Kids of 95, I predict to see atleast 4 stars from this bunch excluding Rooney who's already up there at the moment.

Re: The transfer budget.

It is rumored that Sir Alex has close to around 110 mil GBP to strength the squad now. 80 from the Ronaldo deal, which is a pay upfront no strings attached deal mind you, another 10 mil gathered from selling academy players and finally the 25 mil he was given by the board to strengthen the squad with Ronaldo in mind.

The players that I have in mind:

1. A cheeky bid for Torres. Liverpool won't sell us but still I wouldn't mind a 50 mil GBP bid for him just to check their intentions and if Barca did business with Madrid then why not? :D

2. Sell Berbatov if planning to buy in a another world class striker that fits our counter attacking game. Someone like Villa, Benzema, Eto' come to mind.

3. Make bids in the 40 mil GBP range for one of Xavi/Iniesta. I wouldn't mind going close to 45 for Iniesta. They are unsellable for Barcelona but hey look at the money we have to spend.

4. Stay the F away from Ribery. Not worth it and any money will be overpaying for a 27 year old who hasn't managed a deep champions league run with a team.

Berba's gonna shine for Utd next season, you'll see. He ins't going anywhere.
And Nani..... this guy is so overrated. I'm guessing Utd will bring in Ribery and if they loose Tevez, Benzema will be wearing red next season.

thank god I don't have to see his stupid face in the premiership next year. On the other hand, I wish I had a channel that woul show the Madrid games. I want to see the Kaka and Ronaldo + potentially Villa experiment in effect.

Put Xavi and Iniesta in a team (name it Barça, spanish NT or west Bromwich Albion), round them with 9 good players, and you have silverware assured. Only problem is you'll probably need 150 mil to do that.
