The 2009 Football Draft Discussion (Curtailed to 12 rounds)

Post#1 » by treiz » Fri Jun 12, 2009 2:46 pm

Now, Smoove recently put up a thread about their being more activity in this board, ad I think I may have come up with a solution.

The last draft didn't go that well, although we manage to finish it, no one knew who won so this is my format

To prevent hold-ups and keep teh draft going picks must be made within 12 hours, otherwise the person after you gets to pick. If you're not going to be available to make your pick, send your pick to the j-far or Black Mamba.

Send your e-mails at realgmsoccer@gmail.com

I think around 8-10 teams(maybe more if people want) drafting positions based on a formation(4-4-2, 4-3-3) and you have to state which formation you are going to use. I want to include 7 subs(like in Europe), so this may be an 18 round draft

For example, if I pick a 4-4-2, I will draft:
-Goalkeeper
-Left back, 2 Centre backs, Right back
-2 wingers and 2 central midfielders
-2 strikers

Also, if people feel it's necessary we will also allow drafting maagers.

Since people would prefer for a simulation, the format would be like a league table(I think this would be more fair in comparison to a tournament) with each teams playing the other teams twice For example, if there are 10 teams, each teams must complete 18 games through simulation. Also, these are the mini-awards teams can win:

Golden Boot(top goalscorer)
Best Attack(Team that scored the most)
Best Defence(Team that conceeded fewest)
Best Player or MVP(Player with the highest overall rating)
Best team(whoever wins it all)

Good idea? Any suggestions?

Teams:
Treiz ----- Chelsea
Smoove ----- Manchester United
Munchlaxatives ----- Arsenal
Point Forward -
J-far ------ Barcelona
BlackMamba -
El Turco ----- AC Milan
Batu7 ----- Besiktas
Magik9113 ------ Juventus
MainEvent420 -
Ong_dynasty ----- Queens Park Rangers

This sounds good, but how will we do this? How will we know who has the best team will we have some simulator?

I can simulate a FIFA 08 tournament.

^That's actually a very good idea. But my idea is that we do it like the FIFA World Player of the Year rankings.

After the votes, we accumulate the points
So...
1st place - 10 points
2nd place - 8 points
3rd place - 6 points
4th place - 4 points
5th place - 2 points
6th-10th place - 0 points
For example, if my team gets voted the best defence, second in best midfield, last in best strikers, 4th in best depth, 2nd in best complimentary manager, and 3rd in best team on paper.

Then that would mean I get 10+8+0+4+8+6 = 36 points.

And whoever has the most points at the end will become the best team overall and wins the draft. But seriously, I do like that simulation idea. But how would you put the players drafted together?

EDIT: BTW who'd want in?

I'm def. in and I can simulate on FIFA 09 also and I know how to put all the players on the teams.

Count me in. I really loved the last draft although any posters' interest waned at the end.

BTW I'll sticky this to get more attention.

I like the simulation idea for the results but lets see if someone can come up with anything else.

Or else we could do something like:

50 % - Result for simulation
30 % - FIFA Rankings
20 % - Poll or something else..

If there's member voting, I'd stay out of it. FIFA or ProEvo can simulate tournaments rather than just make it a popularity contest.

Thats cool and we could remove that or add a very low percentage like 5 % so that popularity doesn't decide the contest.

<< in. Work schedule is erratic atm but I will manage.

I also second the distrust of the popular vote, sim up is more reliable IMHO.

What is the player pool? Current? All-time? Something else?

I'd prefer a current player pool but if the majority go for all time I'd be cool with that.

I'll go ahead and set up an e-mail for soccer forum since the PMs haven't been restored yet. Myself, BlackMamba & ICMTM will have access to it.

That's great. One thing though, how do we decide draft order?

Last time we used a randomizer of some sort to start up and then went cycling up the order for the rest of the rounds.

I suggest that we use current player pool, since it'd might be quite difficult to get some of the legendary players in FIFA or PES.

Also, for the simulation, how about we do like a league?
If there's 10 teams, each teams play 20 games and whoevers at the top wins

i like it that someone could make the simulation with a video game having a league to determine the winner!

• I really like the randomize link, we should use it.
• We should only use FIFA 09 or PES 09 current players.
• Like I've said before I'm your simulator, I can even go buy a bloody digital camera and take pictures of the results so you don't think, I'm being bollocks.

Deal?
