With talks of Real going after Clichy, I thought this was a better discussion than the lopsided Evra v. Cashley thread. The battle of the current Arsenal LB with the former.

Transfer-wise, Clichy is younger and much cheaper than Cashley, but in terms of playing ability, who ya got?

Cole. This is much more obvious than the other one, and I'm an Arsenal fan. Clichy has amazing speednand he's a fine player, but he can make some costly mistakes on defence and his crossing isn't too great.

Hands down Ashley Cole. Better going forwad, better crosser and better defender

As an arsenal fan I am biased on both sides....just a few things I want to say...
Last Year I felt Clichy was average and was quite a disappointment while Cole played close to his Arsenal days when he was considered to be the best left back in the world.
The year before Clichy was phenomenal while Cole was meeehhh...

Next year...I leave it at that...

Clichy makes too many mistakes at the moment, though the potential is clearly there for him to turn into a top left back.

Right now Cashley is miles ahead.

I don't think Clichy will ever be able to match Cole's intensity on defensive. Cole easily. I'm an Arsenal fan and I hate that bastard. He's one of the few LBs that could put up a fight against Cristiano Ronaldo.

I agree that Cole is better, but not because of this. Clichy has had good games against him too. He might even be a better matchup because of his speed. Even Gibbs had an amazing game against him in the first leg of the CL semis, and he's just a promising backup at this point.
