Chelsea and England captain John Terry is at the centre of a storm of controversy surrounding his personal life after he reportedly had an affair with the girlfriend of international team-mate Wayne Bridge, jeopardising his England captaincy and throwing Fabio Capello's World Cup plans into disarray.

^ Any sane man would hit that.

I wonder what huge difference it makes to world cup plans other than the fact that the WAGs might not travel to South Africa, which is a good thing in the first place and funnily enough looks like Wayne Bridge is not even first choice for his wife.

Huge Chelsea fan, but i have to admit that Terry has probably been in one scandal too many surrounding his personal life. On the pitch, he leaves everything out there but I'm not sure he's fit to be the England captain.

The only issue is that I don't really think that anyone else is really fit to be the captain. No one on the team has a completely clean record (I'm thinking of Rio, Gerrard, Rooney or even Lampard)

Rumors are that Bridge is considering withdrawing himself from the England squad after this.

and yeah Bridge not playing will only help that.

Micah Richards/[Wes Brown] - Ferdinand/[Lescott]-Terry/[Woodgate] - Cashley

is as good a defensive set up as there is out there. The goal keeper and main striker are England's main worries.

Cheating on your wife with the GF of your best man, now that is pretty :o

I cannot imagine that Terry and Bridge will ever patch things up - let alone until the WC - so I presume that only one of them will go to South Africa. Bridge will be the pawn sacrificed, no way Terry will be banned. I feel bad for Bridge, but that is the way it will probably go :/

With Terry, he has been in too many fights, brawls and slurs (remember that incident when he heckled traumatised Americans one day after 9-11?) to take him seriously anymore. AND he is a choker.

He's many things, but he's no choker. He's a big game player who just happened to miss a penalty shot as the 7~8th kicker of the team. Would you call Baggio a choker because he missed that penalty?

He was the 5th kicker if my memory of that game is as awesome as I believe it to be.

Isn't his mom a kleptomaniac and his dad a drug dealer or something like that?

You are correct. I keep forgetting about Anelka.

Am I the only one who thinks that the whole thing might be an overreaction? There might be a bit of biased in there but I just don't see what the main problem is that they're considering stripping JT of the England captaincy when there is no doubt he is the best leader England have.

May be because some of the players have already started taking sides against him?

But for what reason? And who has taken sides against him besides the Man City players in the England squad? Which by my count would probably be Lescott and SWP.

I understand that he had an affair to one of his mates' girlfriend in Bridge but this was in 2006 and they're not even together anymore. If I was Bridge, but this is just me, I would just move on, of course I'll be pissed at JT for what he did but that doesn't mean that I'd drop out of the World Cup which is undoubtedly the biggest tournament in any footballers career just for an incident that occurred a long time ago. I'd just be professional about it and do my job.
