Togo have been banned from the next two African Cup of Nations after pulling out of this month's finals following a terrorist attack on their team bus.
Three people died in the attack in the Angolan enclave of Cabinda, prompting Togolese prime minister Gilbert Fossoun Houngbo and president Faure Gnassingbe to order their team back without playing in the finals of the tournament.
The Confederation of African Football have now confirmed the ban, with CAF president Issa Hayatou saying the decision to withdraw was based on "governmental interference".
He had previously insisted that Togo were not disqualified from the competition, and had decided to withdraw of their own volition.
The armed wing of the Front for the Liberation of the Enclave of Cabinda (FLEC) claimed responsibility for the fatal attack.

harsh maybe but heartless too strong considering ban wasn't due to the fact they withdrew but because Togo government pulled the team out even though federation and players wanted to play on. regardless i think ban will be lifted on appeal after strong criticism.

Ridiculous. I can't believe a human being would actually raise this possibility and it is even more astonishing that the CAF actually thought this was the right thing to do.

This is one of the worst decisions I've ever heard. I'm sure it will be challenged and eventually reversed.

Thank god. This was an awful decision especially since Togo has a star in Adebayor and isn't exactly a pushover in the African Nations cup.
