If anything, he was extremely poised and patient in the PnR and looking to make a play first before looking to score. Should have at least 8-9 assists but for the likes of Biyombo or Landale missing some easy shots at the rim. A lot of those TOs were his teammates fumbling passes, and in the 2nd half when the Kings ramped up the ball-pressure on him, what with him being literally the only person on the floor who could dribble.
News flash is that the bench is genuinely terrible. Okogie was horrible, Craig, Wainwright and Lee not much better - none of them can handle the ball at all and they're all sub-par shooters. Landale was literally the only other decent player on the floor, and maybe TLC as well.
Washington in fact shot very efficiently (52%), picked his spots, got deep into the paint, showed a lot of patience and good footwork down there, and was also very effective at drawing fouls and getting to the line.
I didn't watch, but have always thought of Washington as more of a Clarkson/Lou Williams type. In his last year in college he played over 32 mpg, scored over 16 ppg but only averaged around 3 assists and 2 turnovers. I think in Indy last year he played over 20 mpg and averaged under 2 apg.
Seems like based on his college and pro years, he puts up points but doesn't do much of anything else...decent 3pt shooter though. He seems like a guy you want to utilize as like a microwave scorer off the bench.
I don't think you want him running your offense. Say what you will about Payne but he's averaged over a 3/1 ast/to ratio in his time with the Suns. I just wish he had better players to play with, but maybe with Landale, Washington and Shamet along with Craig they can be ok and they can all shoot better than they did last year.
