And yes, the defensive drop off was there even when we were winning games and had a (mostly) healthy roster. He doesn’t need to be coddled online. The dude got paid like a premier player and then his energy and overall level of play fell of a cliff and now the team needs him to step up just so we can stabilize.
I agree that the most disappointing thing with him is the defensive drop off. There was some drop off last year and even more this year. I am not sure why. Often his positioning is pretty good and he can stay in front of people but he is not properly contesting as many shots. But it could be better on all fronts (help, positioning, contests, etc).
Second his shooting. Midrange dropped way off to start the season then got on track. Now his shooting is off, though I do think some of that (for him and Bridges) is due to just being the only starters left playing with backups and 3rd stringers..with more pressure and defensive focus.
About the only thing I see massive improvement on (and I think it was pretty good before) is his passing. His ast% is up 50%. His turnover % is up about 20% as though but he has some nice passes...and not just to 3 pt shooters..some nice ones to cutters or guys open under the basket and stuff.
