It would be nice if he could be successful a our PGoTF...especially when Book has improved so much on handling the ball and passing, at least a lot of the time...having some really good games. Booker may even be more of the primary which would mean it's less important to have a guy like the caliber of Paul.

Payne in six games as an starter is basically averaging 20 points, 6 assists and 4 boards shooting 46% from three and 90% at the FT line.

I love him, his playing style is fun to watch and you know that he always works hard on the gym and on the court.

He is an hybrid player from Elliot Perry and Leandrinho Barbosa.

We have a team option for next year ($6.5M). It is nice that we don't have to try to extend him this season because he would probably command much more money.

Did anyone know what our pace differential is with Cam starting vs CP3?

It is amazing how a winning culture and trust in the players abilities changes the production.
i would have called anyone crazy if they would have stated that Payne is starter material 2 years ago.

I was that guy calling for Payne to start. I see him as having the Dragic trajectory, amazing in his first time in the playoffs, followed by a down year, followed by steady improvement until he was All-NBA.

Payne being trash last season is kind of a mystery. People said either he was figured out by other coaches and teams, or he didn't have floor spacing without Saric.

If he is figured out, it doesn’t make sense that he’s able to play this well. If spacing was the issue, then it doesn’t make sense that he is playing well with Biyombo at center, or DA, or not more space than last season with McGee. Even Jock doesn’t provide floor spacing considering he shoots 11% from 3 lol.

He still has some possessions where he over dribbles but yeah overall he’s been really good this season.

My theory is with a long postseason run and with a really short offseason some players were burnt out and maybe a little injured by the time the playoffs came around.

I really like how Payne has played so far but I just don't want to put my hopes up too much as over his career he has been such a streaky shooter but I hope he keeps up this level of play.

There was a lot of reporting about how he spent a significant amount of time watching film and working out what he was and wasn't doing right.

Without taking the floor spacing into consideration, you could already tell he's playing differently. Much more decisive, much more aggressive and much less trying to play a traditional PG role ie he's letting his style flow rather than having a style forced onto him. Last season, he was indecisive, he was trying too hard to set guys up and he's just not a traditional passing PG. He's a combo guard with solid passing abilities and the mistake was trying to be someone he isn't.

Role change last year messed him up. The team was pushing for Cam Jo to be the go to scorer off the bench and wanted Payne to be less aggressive, not score first and more of a facilitator. Johnson wasn't that guy, it didn't work but Payne was off balance on what he should and shouldn't do. His reigns have been taken back off this year.

It looks like Payne takes his work very seriously, puts the work in, and the results show. I follow Payne on all social media accounts, dude was always in a gym this past offseason. No surprise to see him play well

I knew he'd bounce back...between all those "he's trash" and "we need to trade him" I kept saying I'm still a believer...he will bounce back...he showed he could play well in the bubble and the whole next year so he will bounce back...and he played well with starters last year.

Glad to see him bounce back and shut down all or most of the doubters.

I think early last year teams scouted him and took away some of his drive and scoop game. He also just wasn't hitting 3s, that may have just been random shooting variance. Then he got hurt so couldn't work through it. He actually played pretty well late last year when CP was out.

The Pels series their length just wrecked him, seemed to get in his head after a few games.

I wasn't confident he'd get his groove back but I knew there was a decent chance he could and the only way it could is if he had the opportunity to play and figure it out. All those calls to keep Payne on the bench or trade him for next to nothing just to get him off the team was completely unproductive and pointless

There will be games, schemes, defenders he'll struggle against and that's normal for virtually all but the elite players.

Murray State Athletics announced that men's basketball great and MSU Hall of Fame member, Cameron Payne, will have his jersey retired when the Racers host the UIC Flames (Jan. 14) at the CFSB Center in Murray, Kentucky. Tip off time for the game will be announced soon. The special moment will occur at halftime.

As a sophomore, Payne was the second-fastest Racer to 1,000 career points, accomplished in 57 games. With Payne at the helm, Murray State set a school and conference record 25-game winning streak and eventually took the season all the way to the National Invitation Tournament quarterfinals.
