Collin Gillespie signs a guaranteed contract

Post#1 » by Saberestar » Mon Jun 30, 2025 4:30 pm

Shams:

Guard Collin Gillespie intends to sign a guaranteed one-year contract to return to the Phoenix Suns, sources tell ESPN. Suns officials and agents James Dunleavy and Jordan Gertler of Excel Sports worked toward the deal that rewards Gillespie after a strong season on a two-way.

Sam Cooper(The Timeline Pod):
We only got a 500 minute sample of Collin Gillespie, but that was more than enough to prove himself as an NBA player. As a reminder:

- 15/6/6 per 36 (very good rebounder for his size)
- 4.5 AST/TO ratio
- 43% 3P
- 92nd percentile in deflections

Ready for a bigger role.

He has been called by some experts "The new Steve Nash".

Love it. He was great during the final stretch of the season for the Suns. I hope he takes on a larger role and he's able to prove he belongs in the rotation.

I actually noticed when he was on the court unlike Tyus
SHAZAM!

Suns traded Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder and 4 1st round picks and a swap so some Vegas Bookies would like us.

Congrats, well deserved. Probably poor mans McConnell due to his size, but that makes him an overqualified 3rd string, and likely a bit underqualified 2nd string. You need those on a min contract, happy with this signing.

Absolutely love the guy. I'm so glad we made the right move to retain him. From March onwards, he dropped 66 dimes and only logged 14 turnovers, almost a 5:1 assist to turnover ratio. In that same stretch, shot 42.7% from 3 (35/82) and grabbed 3 rebounds a game.

This dudes going to end up starting 40+ games this year.
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming Wow! What a Ride!-H.S.T.

Do we have Rfa Status on him next year then?

Nope. RFA status only applies to rookie scale contracts. But he would be eligible for early bird rights which means we could sign him to anything up to around the MLE ($14m)

Good signing but disappointing it's not for longer. Suns being a 2nd apron team absolutely need productive players at low/minimum salaries.

It's a fine outcome. We can't really sign him for much longer anyway because then he'll have to accept basically the minimum contract for multiple years. I'm sure he's hoping as anyone in his situation would, to use his contract year to try and show out and earn a bigger contract. At the end of the day, if he does ball out, we'll have the early bird rights to retain him

per 36: 15/6/6 with only 1.3 TOV on 43% 3pt

Very solid.
