Since the deal is basically done with shaq, (ie physical) do the suns need one more piece to solidify this team and its current move? Lets look at this for a minute. Marion was not the best outside shooter, but he could hit it every once in a while. That was one thing we depended on was the ability to spread the floor and shoot.

Now who is the back up SF to Hill? This is a scary thing to think about if he goes out. Is tuck the man or old pike?

Again, do we need to make one more move? It seems like Sarver may be willing to take it in the lux tax to win. Well, at least he is willing to pay shaq 20 mil the next couple of years. So do we use the TE, or do we go after a vet who gets bought out, or someone who is retired and flirted with coming a back?

The tipping point of the trade was probably when Kerr saw Mike re-insert Hill in the starting lineup vs the Bobcats to continue with small ball. By trading Shawn, a quick forward who can rebound and defend, that's probably the end of small basketball so the next to go could be Mike himself. Either him, or it's Boris Diaw. I'd think Kerr will try like hell to move him.

My hoping is the fact that we have to pay Shaq $20 mil 2 years from now when the Heat don't have to pay anything, the deal should include the swapping of Atlanta pick and Miami pick this year. If that's the case, the Suns will just use one of their T.E's to grab that 13th body for minimum roster.

When you break down the finances you have to remember Banks' contract and a future extention for Matrix. It basically looks like this:

It's a wash this year.

Shaq--08/09+09/10=$40m

Matrix--08/09=$17m+extention?
Banks--08/09+09/10+10/11=$13m

So if Matrix picks up his player option next year along with Banks $13m there is a difference of $10m. If Miami extends Marion then he will certainly make more than that. A conservative figure would be 3 years $40m. When you consider the extention $ we actually come out ahead. If Matrix opts out and signs the extention next summer they will have to pay him at least $40m over 3 or 4 years. Or they chose to lose him for nothing. When you look at the free agents available, I'm not sure if any of them are better than Shawn.

Next move is probably firing D'Antoni and replacing him either with Kerr or someone with a similar philosophy. I'd love to acquire Mike Miller, but I don't see how Sarver could accept taking on that much payroll. Actually, I don't think anyone but Dolan would be willing to have a payroll that high.

Actually, wait, the next move has to be signing a dude, b/c you need 13 players on your roster. So 2nd move (this offseason) is firing D'Antoni, then 3rd move is trading Diaw for "financial flexibility." Memphis will be under the cap this offseason -- they may be willing to take Diaw and several draft picks in exchange for a conditional 2nd rounder.
