Cassell Might Be Bought Out
February 23, 2008 - 11:34 am
The Daily News -
The Clippers are leaning towards buying out the contract of point guard Sam Cassell, according to the Daily News in Los Angeles.

The organization realizes that Cassell's heart is no longer in L.A. and there seems to be no reason to keep him around with the Clippers nearly eliminated from the playoff hunt.

Clippers coach Mike Dunleavy told the News, "You have between now and March 1 where you're going to see guys who could potentially get bought out of deals. Certain things can happen. We're looking at all of those potential situations, and looking for opportunities that could help us."

I really hope Kerr can get Cassell to sign with us for the vet min, he would help a lot because he has Championship experience and can definatly spell Nash some minutes. Barbosa can slide down to the 3 in some cases. This is the type of guy we need in the playoffs.

Cassell will sign with Boston because he'll get a bigger role there then anywhere else.

He'll start in Boston or atleast get 25-30 MPG. Here, he will be lucky to get 15 because there's no way Mike D cuts the minutes for Diaw or Barbosa.

Okay, but did you ever think that maybe he might not want to go out East? Maybe he likes the west coast and wants to stay in the area. Heck, If i'm Cassell I would try to get on the Lakers, that way I wouldn't have to move. Its not like he isn't going to get paid. How do you know he even likes Boston, i think last time he played them he got ejected or something. There are a lot of factors that could go into this, i think you are overlooking a lot of them. The guy is old maybe he could benefit from lesser minutes.

And I would cut Diaws minutes in a second... the guy is so freakin' lost its not even funny. And Sam would definatly be good insurance if a guard goes down.

My first priority would be Brent Barry, Cassell would probably be second.

In any case, if Boston does happen to sign one, I doubt that they'd sign the other. There were weak rumblings of Barry going to Boston, if he does then I think we'd probably be right up there for Cassell. If Barry decides to head back to San An, then Cassell would probably go back to Boston, and we'd be on the outs.

Has anyone seen much of that Marcus Vinicus guy? Got a scouting report? He sounds intriguing, like a Steve Novak shooting big forward. A poor mans Tim Thomas even. We could do with one of those.

I think Barry is destined to go back to SA. They just aren't dumb like Stackhouse.

The Vinicus guy looks intriguing because he is also from Brazil.... maybe a buddy for Barbosa?

Sam would be badass here.. But like dm said, he'll land a bigger role in Boston, and hes already said that he wants to play there..

How stupid is the LAC FO though..? Why not trade him away for draft picks.. Young players.. ANYTHING. Instead they're just buying him out??

The do nothing front office of the LA Clippers made up of Sterling, Dunleavy, Baylor and Roeser is the worst in the NBA, bar none. They have nothing to play for this season, know Sam wants to play for a winner and will not resign with them in the offseason yet still get nothing in return for him.
