They have - by far - the highest ticket prices and the second best TV package.
I realize that, but like what the knicks discovered, being into the tax vastly limits a team for years.

when you already have everything you need, being in tax territory doesn't limit you at all.
it limits the knicks because they have a horrible roster and need changes.
the lakers won't need those for many many years now.
if there is ever a need - any player on the laker roster will be very tradable next season - even radmanovic.
the only possible exception is walton. and compared to other teams - that's a pretty good situation to be in.
it's more about the tradability of your players - whether or not they're worth their pay or have other value such as expiring deals - not how much they cost you - as long as your owner is willing to pay, and thankfully buss is.
the lakers have every intention of keeping both turiaf and sasha.
sasha will cost - but not as much as you think imo.
turiaf will defenetly be cheaper than you'd think because he will give the lakers the "haslem" discount for loyalty through the whole heart surgery ordeal where they stood by him, paid his bills, and treated him as one of the guys even though he hasn't even had a single practice with the team.
i'm not saying he'll sign for the minimum, but he'll sign for less than other teams will offer.
i also used to be sure that ariza is going to opt out and we'll have to resign him too, but with his current injury - it may be possible that he choses not to opt out of his deal if he only comes back for the playoffs and doesn't get a lot of chances to contribute.
that could endup a blessing in disguise - although i'd much rather have him healthy and playing.
his injury usually goes unnoticed and underrated because of bynum, but ariza brings a LOT to this team, and he's very missed.
anyway, if you ask me - the odd man out is odom.
the lakers may use him to try and dump a long term contract like walton.
they will defenetlyl use him to get a more conventional small forward (probably a sniper).
but considering everything that turiaf, sasha, and ariza bring to the table at a much cheaper cost than odom, and considering he does not have the ideal skill set to play small forward with gasol and bynum - the smart money is on the lakers shopping odom this summer.
they already offerred him a few weeks ago for mike miller and got rejected.
that may have a better chance next year when odom has an expiring deal.
battier and b. jackson's expiring deal (next summer) may also make sesne.
we'll have to wait and see...
and bynum wont' get max money. that no longer exists in today's nba unless you're a free agent and already turned down big money before like say, rashard lewis...
but today's cba makes it stupid for any team to hand out max money.
huge contract ?
absolutly - that's what he'll get.
but not max.
he'll have to give something back in return for the financial security he'll be getting 1 year before he becomes a RESTRCITED free agent which means the lakers can't lose him anyway...

The short answer is that the Lakers owner will pay luxury tax and we will go way over the cap. The long answer is we will be winning rings year after year. I think you should be worrying about your Suns' cap situation. Hopefully we will meet the Suns in the playoffs, so we get a chance to sweep them clean. Order has finally been restored in the Pacific Division. Sorry Suns, goodluck winning a title.
I echo EZ's thoughts and will add that, I find it amusing that Suns-Fan has apparently given up beating the Lakers THIS SEASON and is looking to the future for help...

classy.
+1, please until the lakers get past the first round we don't need to say anything. Also The way this team looks on paper, anything except for WCF would be a let down. Lets see how it plays out first?
