i disagree with this. its the players' job to play the right way and earn the coaches respect and playing time, not the other way around. the bench validated their lack of playing time with their 4th qtr effort tonight. they lost the quarter.
I'm not disagreeing with anything you guys are saying, the effort should be there even if the restuls are not.
And lol@Shaq saying we played "unbelievable defense", they gave up 70 in the 2nd half, 38 in the 3rd quarter.

In meaningful game time we did so. (First half) Grizzlies were at around 35% at half.
Anything after that, who cares? I figured they'd come out with little intensity given the fact we were watching a gang bang on live television.

Disagreed. It's called developing your bench. Early in the year the Spurs lost some games too because their bench players weren't performing well... but Pop kept going to them and now they are performing and routinely winning playing bench to give their guns rest in the regular season. Look at the Lakers bench, they had Sasha Vujacic contributing, enough said.
I don't disagree with Mike's 7-8 men rotation. He likes shorter rotation and he'll want to really try and trim the rotation and get that steady sub pattern going each game so guys really find that rhythm down the stretch. But I think he had learned that he needs insurance especially in the playoffs. Keep DJ in the rotation, I'm not talking about 15-20 minutes, maybe just 5-8 minutes.
In 04-05 LB's minutes were shaky, he was out of the rotation in the playoffs and when JoeJ went down and JJax had to start, he was out of the mix completely and we were left with nothing off the bench. Same thing in 05-06 when Raja went down and House was out of the mix. Same thing last year when Boris and Amare were out and we had no real depth to rely on. Banks was in the doghouse, as was Jumaine Jones and Rose, so we had to only go with the guys we knew about and trusted.
In the end, you're going to live and die by your rotation guys. But you still need to have confidence in your bench guys that they can step up and not fold under the pressure or just to be good enough to step up and contribute if needed.

The 2005-06 Suns will always have a special place in my heart

for perspective though, remember this is the same memphis team that we only led by 1 point at 3/4 time last time we played them before finally blowing them out in the fourth
and that team didnt have mike miller
gay also scored 36
so since then, they have added miller and we were far more comprehensive in our win whilst adjusting and defending Gay better
all we could ask for out of this game really
