He does, though. He gets better every year. The big thing to notice of late is that his defense has gotten a lot better and he continues to improve as a scorer. I think you're just overwhelmed with all the Lebron marketing stuff that goes on.

and seems much more interested in the marketing of LeBron James rather than the improvement of the basketball player. You can't say that about Amare. Amare worked very hard every offseason.

You can't really say it about Lebron either, not if you've followed him year to year reasonably closely.

LeBron is productive. But there is something intangible I see in Chris Paul and that I saw in Magic Johnson that I don't see in LeBron. And maybe its an issue of not going to college that prevents certain intangible gifts from surfacing in a player's game. I've always had the same problem with Bryant, it seems to have taken him 10 years to learn what Chris Paul already knows about how to lead a team and just basic things like shot-selection. Any player who doesn't go to college is potentially making a huge mistake that might not be overcome until they are past their prime. That wasn't the case with Garnett, but I'm sure LeBron's attention to defense would be greater had he gone to college, and his posting-up would be further along or he may even be primarily a post-up player because that is the first thing a college coach would focus on with a player of LeBron's size.

I didn't say LeBron has a chance of Top 5 All-Time. I mean hypothetically most superstars have a chance if they fix all their weaknesses but can you really see LeBron going from "poor defense" to "great defense"? I can't, and thats what it takes to be top 5 (or top 10). And I'd never confuse the greatness of an all-round game like Magic Johnson with the numbers of LeBron. Numbers don't make greatness, intangibles plus numbers plus championships do. I mean, how can a guy that size with no post-game and streaky shooting be great?

Have you watched LeBron this season? He's a pretty good defender. In this thread(http://realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php? ... highlight=), people generally agree that LeBron isn't by any means a great or elite defender, but he's a decent defender.

He took an absolutely crap team last year past the Pistons to the Finals as a 22 year old; if that's not leadership or evidence of intangibles I don't know what is.

He'd be a damned sight better than Marion on defense, that's for sure... The man's built like a freaking tank, he reminds me of Karl Malone (less 10 pounds, sure, but not far off in physical intimidation factor).

He's Karl Malone with Marion's speed and quickness that can make the pass.

Well, he doesn't have the system set up to exploit the pick-and-roll the way that Malone did (nor the point guard) and he's considerably worse in the post and considerably better as a wing iso player... and his passing is freaking unreal at his size.

But physically, they bear a strong resemblance in their ridiculous strength and girth.
