Draft day trade with Portland brewing?

Post#1 » by WTFsunsFTW » Thu Jun 19, 2008 2:38 am

Just a hunch after taking a deeper look at Chad Ford's new ESPN Mock 5.0, but it makes me wonder if we in fact do have a deal in the works with Portland.

The entire time he has had Rush at 15 for us, now he has him at 13 for Portland, but his entire description is about how Portland doesn't need youth and is looking to trade. He bases this off of not on what they should do but what they will do regarding inside info.

Along with the multiple rumors floating around that we may aim for two draft picks in the first round, and that Barbs and Diaw are being dangled out there in trade rumors, Kerr may have some tricks up his sleeve with the "future considerations" promised with last year's James Jones trade.

Barbs/Diaw/2nd Rounder for Jack/Frye/LaFrentz/13?

Roy/Blake/Rodriguez (and wtf Fernandez)
Barbs/JJ/Wafer
Diaw/Webster
Aldrige/Outlaw/McRoberts
Oden/Pryzbilla

Suns

Nash/Jack/DJ
Bell/Rush(13)/Tucker
Hill/Greene(15)/Giricek(?)
Amare/Frye
Shaq/LaFrentz/Skinner(?)

I can't see Portland needing Boris...but barbosa, yes that makes a lot of sense for them.

Barbosa could start next to Roy because he can shoot the rock as well and drive to the hoop. His speed works in the open court, but can be and maybe wasn't fully utilized in Phoenix. He's not a point guard, but playing next to Roy, he wouldn't have to be. He'd have to make the right passes and knock down his shots.

As for Diaw, he could play next to Oden and be a high-post PF w/ the ability to hit his elbow jumper. He could play next to Aldridge and work down low. He'd be able to find open cutters or shooters. He'd play very well next to Aldridge because Aldridge showed a decent ability in regards to timing when to cut into the lane. He could play next to Przybilla because he wouldn't have to worry too much about his defense when Przybilla is there with him.

That being said, a lot of teams could use Diaw as their starting power foward. I'm not sure he's worth paying that much as a back-up who wouldn't finish out games. If Phoenix is really thinking about trading him, someone should snatch him up. Get someone to light a fire under his arse and he could easily get back to the numbers he was putting up when Amare was out with his bum knee. I can't see Portland making this trade unless they also include Rodriguez.

Would Barbosa for 13/Blake/expiring be too much?

I dont think so, Portland will have jack/blake/rodriguez/fernandez to choose from for the next 3 years, theyre pretty set for PGs, and thye have no use for expirings as theyre contracts are all very cap friendly other than lafrentz, and they dont need any more rookies.
