Post#1 » by suns12345 » Wed Aug 27, 2008 11:27 am

I was bored and wondered how you would rank the suns players compared to each other from 1 to thirteen.

e.g.

1. stat
2. nash
3. hill
.
.
12. amundson
13. tucker

Same as yours except I have Nash and Amare swapped, and I think Boris could be the third best player if he ever tried.

Wow, Bell and Hill ahead of Shaq???

It is not all about the numbers, Shaq affects the game in more ways then what the Stat sheet reflects. Shaq should be third.

Also, i think Shaq will be more productive if he gets more shot attempts under Porter wich i think he will. D'antoni's system was an awful fit for Shaq and he still produced, like always top 5 in FG% and he averaged a double double for the Suns.. i mean what do you get from bell asides from good defense from time to time, and from hill that makes them better then Shaq?? Beats me....

Do you mean talent/skills or what they mean to the team?

Talent is one thing. Skill is what you do with your talent.

IMO, with his MVP trophy Nash is by far the best player/most impact (talent and skill) on the team.

He makes other people better...And Nash is Hall of Fame clutch.

Amare has great physcal ability, he's not a great basketball player.

I did my ranking based on how much the team would be affected if that player was taken out. Kinda like the +/- thing.

We've done well without a proper big man (Shaq) for many years and although we would probably lose a lot of rebounds, I think it still won't be as bad as losing Bell. Which is why I ranked him over Shaq. Bell has been the anchor to our back court defense for many years and is the heart and soul of our team. While we can play without Shaq and have STAT play center again, I think it hurts us more without someone to stop the A.I's and the Kobe's. Lopez can still play some D in our front court, but in our back court we have virtually no one playing anything close to defense (undecided on dragic yet.)

There position in my list could easily be changed around depending on the team we play.

may actually switch STAT and Nashty...but it is kind of a toss up for me.

Well to each his own, but i think many here are going with their loved players instead of with logic...
theres no way in hell that Hill, Bell or BARBS have more impact on a basketball game then Shaq, thats ABSURD!!!

1.Nash - He IS the Suns, no one should go over him.
2.Stat - A lot of Talent, lacks poise in clutch situations.
3. Shaq - Obviously getting Older, but still REQUIRES a double team, affecting other teams D overall.
4. Bell - above avg defender, can shoot from time to time, but thats about it, cant create his own shot, no post game...
5. Hill - A shadow of his former self but can do it all on ocations, cant count on him to take over a game.
6. Barbs - Inconsistent to say the least.... can be a scoring machine, cant guard anyone.
7. Diaw - A waste of great talent. Underachiever...
8. Barnes - Athletic, can make the 3 can average defender.
9. Dragic - Skilled raw player, has to develop, will be better then Lopez overall imo.
10. Lopez - Will be a serviceable player for years to come. thats about it imo.
11. Singletary - undersized, bench player for life.
12. Tucker - dont know much about this guy
13 Amundson - same as above

Thats my take, I admit i have not followed the suns over the years like most here, but thats my take from what ive seen this last years.

Couldn't the same be said for you?

It's all subjective.

Subjective?? Lets see...
Well Shaq disrupts offense with his ability to demand double teams, disrupts offenses with his Shot Blocking, takes pressure off Amare so he can be more effective on offense, Makes it possible for Amare to play his natural position the 4, while also helping amare stay out of foul trouble, Inside presence, Post Game, Brings leadership to the locker room, playoff experience, (4 rings) etc..

now please tell me what does Barbs, Hill or Bell bring to the table and lets compare! Shall we??
