W.C. standing this year
I was wondering what you all thought would be the final standings this year.
Take into account preseason surgeries, offseason transactions, etc. etc
Here is mine
1. Rockets (artest will help them immensly)
2. Hornets (they got experiance in the playoffs and while posey is no star he is solid and will help)
3. Lakers (they were the wc champs and didn't lose anyone of significance)
4. Suns ( we imprioved our depth, got a new coach, and will have a new emphasis on defense)
5. Mavericks (are hangin on by a thread and did nthing to improve)
6. Spurs (manu's injury was more serious than thought and he is gonna miss months not weeks. they didn't get any younger either)
7. Jazz (they seem to just find a way to win. and they have no competition in their division so they are guaranteed a higher seed come playoffs)
8. Blazers (they are an exciting young team and oden only helps them, they lack experiance)
9. Clippers (their name says it all)
10. Warriors (replacing davis with maggette doesnt seem like a good thing)
11. Nuggets (trading away camby was a big signal that they are rebuilding. they now have the worst defense in the league)
12. Kings (didnt get better and are still rebuilding)
13. Grizzlies (marc gasol will be a nice addition but once again, they did nothing to improve
14. OK city (they have a very nice foundation down the road)
15. T-wolves (same as OKC)

Re: W.C. standing this year
1 LAL (Bynum, Gasol, Odom front court + Kobe)
2 HOU (Killer offense + killer defense + Yao healthy)
3 NOH (CP3 CP3 CP3)
4 UTA (Great depth in front court and backcourt)
5 PHX (Focus on defense to stop opponents, do what we do to outscore them)
6 SAS (Year older + Manu ankle surgery looks to set them back a bit)
7 DAL (Kidd trade looks worse than Shaq trade, nothing exciting but still a west superpower)
8 POR (Oden, Roy, Aldridge, Outlaw. Did well last year. expect more this year)
9 LAC (Looks great on paper. Clips to come up for playoff contention, but wont make it)
10 GSW (Point guard issues + ellis surgery, set them back a fair bit. Losing B.Diddy will hurt them)
11 DEN (Love A.I, but Melo+Kmart won't do it. Rebuidling)
12 SAC (Rebuilding, but still got vets in the right positions, and new franchise player)
13 MEM (Mayo, Conley, Gay is going to be great in the next few years. Pending Z-Bo-Darko trade)
14 OKC (Durant is going to be a star. 3-4 season time, they will be contending)
15. Min (not sure what's going on there)
2 HOU (Killer offense + killer defense + Yao healthy)

5. Rockets (They Have a really nice squad this year "on paper" watch out for ego's)
6. Jazz (Deron Williams, will continue to shine at PG and get others involved)
7. Mavericks (Aren't the same Mavs anymore)
8. Warriors (Im not going to be surprised if this team is clicks)
9. Clippers(Have a few good vets, and might be able to sneak in there)
10. Blazers (Its a young team, they may or may not)
11. Nuggets (sorry, melo and iverson, again not your year)
12. Kings (all i got to say is good luck)
13. Grizzlies (They got some young talent but, not enough)
14. OKC (No comment)
15. Minny (Could sneak into top 12)

Suns had the best record in the league if you take out the first ten games Shaq played, there is no reason to think that the adjustments made at the end of last season won't carry over to the upcoming season.

Re: W.C. standing this year
#1 Hornets - Add Posey and minus Pargo and they are better than last year
#2 Lakers - If Kobe's finger surgery goes well then they will be really good. Add the new China PG Sun to the mix and they are scary.
#3 Rockerts* - * is because they are never healthy and even with Artest, I doubt they have TMac and Yao the entire year. If they do, then they fall here. If not, they could miss playoffs.
#4 Suns - I think this team gets much better If they actually start focusing on defense. Offense will be fine. Diaw will have a good year. Barbosa must learn to play defense and if he doesn't we have to consider trading him while his stock is still high.
#5 San Antonio - Manu out for at least a month will hurt them in the standings. They are still solid and I believe they have the best coach in the league.
#6 Utah - Mediocre in the regular season, but will make it to the 2nd round of the playoffs AT LEAST.
#7 Portland - Scary team. If they keep it together and nothing crazy happens, this team will be in the finals within 3 years.
#8 Sacramento - You heard it here. They are in if they are not plauged by injuries. Kevin Martin will be a top 5 scorer I predict.

I don't like the fact that some folks here like PHX to finish 5th. That means we don't get home court and we'll probably go against LAL, NO, or HOU in the 1st round, ouch!! we need to stay top 3 fo sho.

1. L.A. Lakers (Division Winners)
2. Houston Rockets (Division Winners)
3. Phoenix Suns
4. Utah Jazz (Division Winners)
5. New Orleans Hornets
6. Dallas Mavericks
7. San Antonio Spurs
8. Portland Trailblazers
L.A. Clippers
Denver Nuggets
Golden State Warriors
Sacramento Kings
Minnesota Timberwolves
Memphis Grizzlies
OKC Thunder
That is because a lot of people forgot that there must be the winner of each division in the top 4 seeds... they completly miss that the NW division winners MUST be included. For those of you who don't know the NW Division consists of: Utah, Denver, Portland, Minnesota, and OKC (Seattle).

Re: W.C. standing this year
1. Hornets (Posey addition, as well as the continued development of their CP3/West/Chandler core puts em 1 notch higher this year)
2. Lakers (maybe the most talented overall team in the NBA, but their players always seem to spend too much time hitting on teh nurses to finish first this time)
3. Jazz (Young team that will only get better as Deron/Boozer/Milsap/Brewer/Almond continue to come along. If Okur returns to his 2006 shape, AK47 gets closer to being his former allstar self and Koufos makes us regret not taking him over Lopez in this year's Draft, YIKES!)
4. Rockets (They look very good on paper, but now with the Artest addition, it's gonna be their 3 best players that seem to spend most careers away from a basketball court... History will continue to repeat itself anyways, they always get hyped up like hell in the offseason, then it always amounts to nothing and they crash out in the POs first round, poor TMac)
5. Spurs (Age will keep em from going any higher then then that in the reg season, Roger Mason, and maybe a lil Ian Mahinmi keeps em from slipping too much)
6. Suns (Age keeps us from goin higher, Barnes keeps us from slipping too much)
7. Blazers (Maybe higher if Greg Oden/Bayless/Fernandez learn to play well with Roy fast, Fernandez adapts to the NBA quickly, Oden shakes off the rust fast and meshes good w/ Aldridge, and Outlaw/Aldridge keep on the development trend they've been on so far)
8. Crap teams Nuggets , Paperclips, and Mavs fight out for the final playoff spot.
Unfortunatly, the Monta injury prolly killed the last chances the Warriors had of making into the post-season this year
