Re: OT:Election 2008
We live in a country that fosters a love of instant gratification. It's sad really.
If something isn't working out, we blame the easiest person possible. It's the mob mentality.
If you don't like something, do something about it.
Its our own stupidity that causes inlfation, the credit crunch, that overhypes tropical storms, that buys into celeberity gossip and that takes what the media gives us with little to no filter for our own sake.

We wouldn't have needed to spend that dough or have a "surge" had we used better judgement and not gotten in this mess from jump.
He won't talk about how Bush's policies are so awful cause he's going to be beholding to Bush once he's in office. More of the same.
By the way I hear Palin is changing her son's and McCain's diaper.
so totally wrong i dont even know what to say. FACT, sadam gassed the kurds, FACT in 15 years he killed over 400,000 people to include iranians during the iraq/iran war, kurds, and shia muslims.
we fought that war because the the rest of the world was too big a wuss to stand up and say enough was enough. this is a leader that wanted to wipe isreal off the map, a leader that the u.n. security coucil voted to take action against, but never did.
the majority of the american public supported it in the beginning. and democrats and republcans alike voted to invade. at the time we had a blodd lust. it only became unpopular because while america has a bloodlust, we can't stomache losing our own people.
i liken this war to americas response to 9/11. everyone was ll patriotic and united. but that quickly wore off. the iraq invasion once again made most everyone happy, but that quickly wore off. we americans have the attention span of a 2 year old.
some things that have happened can be blamed on bush. but so many more can not be blamed on him. the media is to fault for placing the blame. he did not cause millions of homes to foreclose stupid people did. he did not cause 9/11. he tried several times to help the economy, but people made their own choices. he doesnt force us to spend 104% of our budget. we do that.
YOU SHUT YOUR MOUTH WHEN YOU'RE TALKING TO ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: OT:Election 2008
AS far as the whole WMD thing is concerned, we knew they had chemical weapons. We also knew they had missiles capable of launching chemically equiped warheads. Just because we found these things on opposite sides of the country and dismantled doesn't mean they weren't capable of sending another volley into some ethnic group they didn't like.
My personal bet? I have a friend in the military that says military sattelites and surveilence has evidence that Iraq moved its functioning weapons out of the country before the invasion and that the military is pretty sure they have it buried in the sands inside the Syrian border.
Want to invade Syria to prove it? The only weapon poeple like Saddam have to strike at the American public is personal opinion driven by the liberal media. Most American's hate Bush, they say he's a flaming idiot, and this is public opinion turned towards our own President by corrupt foreign powers.
Sure Saddam may have forced our hand and Bush may not be popular, but Saddam is dead and Bush did what was right, plain and simple.
Plus, if for a second you think you have a complete grasp of the situation, think again. Can you imagine the things that our government knows? The very same things that keep us safe? You'll never hear about the things our government does to keep us safe daily, those things don't get sensationalized by the media, but they happen. Yet when the American public, at the prodding of the liberal media, perceives one situation without complete fact in a poor light, we crucify our leader without even thinking twice.

Re: OT:Election 2008
if you continue to believe that saddam didnt have any, it just shows blind stupidity. i don't normally make personal attacks, but that statement just proves that you are one of those crazy left wingers that believes michael moore.
read sun scorched's post.
also, like i have stated before, it is very dificult to find things in the open desert. most of the weapons caches that have been found in the open desert were due to luck, or some shepherd showing us where they were.
i tell you what, how about if i go and put a 55 gal drum somewhere in the desert, and i give you a rough estimate of where it is. lets say i put you somewhere within 2 miles of it. now this barrel will be burried half way in the dirt. let me know if you find it. now imagine burying something completely in the dirt/sand. in case you dont know about sand, one wind storm will cover anything up and completely change the scenery around it. let me know if you wanna play. i go to glamis all the time and would love to play this little game with someone.
if you dont find it, does it mean it isnt there? nope, just means you didnt find it. it doesnt mean you are incompetent or dumb either it just means i did a good job of hiding, and nature helped me out a bit.

They did a good job of hiding it?...
So what you're saying is as soon as the US military leaves someone is going to dig up the treasure of the WMD and start killing folks.
We'll have to go right back there to find them. Then they'll hide them again.
So we really haven't accomplished what we went over there for...
The Iraqi must be straight gangsta.
We been killin' and water boardin' for near a decade and nobody said nothing?!
As far Bush doing what was right, there are far, far, far worst people in the world he could have gone after. (Maybe that guy thats in the caves in Afghanistan/Pakistan) (how about the country so many of the 9/11 highjackers came from)
Saddam is light in the evil person game.
All the time money and lives could have been spent going after bigger fish...If it was really about going after evil criminals.
HEY EVERYBODY!!! WHERE IS BIN LADEN!!!
ALL THIS TIME ON SADDAM AND IRAQ...WHY DID WE STOP GOING AFTER BIN LADEN.
WHERE IS THE 9/11 JUSTICE?!

Re: OT:Election 2008
If our present government conducted itself according to the Constitution of the US, we would not be in half the mess we are in. Our politicians have been compromised by the insaitable thirst for money from special interests and power from the congressional lifestyle. Both are hard monkeys to get of the back. We have influenced and controlled governments across the globe through economic and military blackmail, meddling with other countries under the guise of 'righteousness' and 'spreading democracy'. We have allowed sweet trade deals to be arranged yet conviniently look the other way when it comes to labor and environmental practices. We dole out foreign aid as a form of justified bribery, rewarding bad behavior as much as good. Essentially, our federal government has become hypocritical and no longer follows the rules and guidelines set forth by the founders of this country, both internally and externally.
Bash Bush all you want. There will always be those who rally to his defense and their opinions will never change. It is the same with the Clinton-ians. I for one, consider him (W) unpresidential and inneffective. I am not alone when I wonder if he was smart and qualified enough for the presidency. (All he had to do for a while was open his mouth to reaffirm it) Or who is really running the show? He wasted some great opportunities in the post 9/11 era. W has been hiding behind this war and has ignorred true problems in our own counrty. Oh, but many will say we are safer now and have not had another terroist attack...we are fighting them on their soil... Do you really think so ??? There are some theories that profess that the cost alone of this war has weakened the US. Do not think that terrorists are limited to only bombs and bullets. You want to believe that our government has secretly thwarted all of the attempts from the numerous sleeper cells hidden in the US...well go right ahead. Keep in mind that the terrorists pick the time and the place. They are very patient. BinLadin received a healthy tongue lashing from his religious superiors for orchestrating an 'unprovoked' attack (9/11) Their next strike with in the US will be in response to actions against Iran or??? We were given a pass on unseating Saddam who was disliked by the fundamentalists. http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=46127
That and the links are interesting reads...and just as believable as any statement supporting theories that Home Land Security and their Yellow Alerts have kept us safe by nabbing the bad guys... but they are just not telling us. BTW... IF the FBI had uncovered a terrorist cell in NYC with a nuclear bomb...Do you think they would announce it? Think about that.
Ah but I ramble. Time to switch to decaf.
It is just a complete shame that We The People have allowed this to happen. The apathetic voting turnout, the media biasness and scrutiny, the outrageous amount of CASH it takes actually run for any political office has highjacked our country into this state of stagnated bipolar flux. Everybody loves their Congressman...yet they are disatisfied with Congress. We elect presidents like Prom Kings.
And most just don't give a damn anymore.

Re: OT:Election 2008
Back when the Continental Congress existed, people were only allowed to serve one term. They were farmers, blacksmiths and masons. They would serve their time, vote the right way because they had no incentive to appease voters, they couldn't get re-elected. Once their time was up, they would return to what they were doing and go on living life.
With lifetime politicians in office, they will only vote to preserve their own self interest. Constituency is a fabrication to keep our eyes off of how they really vote, polls.
We need term limits.

Wow, two comments and I am retiring from this thread.
1. Right on Frankie, nice take.
2. For anyone who thinks Saddam is evil light, you are f*cking clueless. As history is recorded, he belongs in a group of "fabulous" human beings that include Hitler, Stalin, Mao, and Pol Pot. There is nothing light about chemical warfare, ask the Kurds if you disagree with me. There is nothing light about dropping your political adversaries into a meat grinder as a form of execution. There is nothing light about cutting your Minister of Health into pieces and delivering the pieces of his body to his wife. He is responsible for hundreds of thousands more lives being ended than Bin Laden, but for short sighted, ignorant, self contained Americans; each American life lost is equal to a million non Americans dying, And people wonder why the world as a whole despises America. Go figure.
I am out of here, its been fun.

There are people who have done worse than him and we haven't spent billions going after them.
There is tons and tons of killing and raping going on in the world.
Why him?
Bin Laden broke American law. Took American lives on American soil.
It's not about American lives being more valuable than anyone elses.
It's about us taking care of our business first.
Do we go to France and put their drunk drivers in jail? Do we go to Amstersdam and arrest their hookers? I'm sure some Kurd has gotten VD or bad sex from a hooker would say she needs arresting.
We haven't found the WMD's which was the justification for why we went there.
If they are hidden we'll just have to stay there forever cause the minute we take off the handcuffs you can be sure some angry Iraqi is gonna go get his WMD gun and start shooting.
It all seems very misplaced.

When asked about McCain's economic policy she said she'd get back to Katie Couric on that.
She defended her seeing Russia from Alaska comment.
If Barack had said these things I would have to say he was not ready and a damn fool.
Why would McCain do this. I know to win, isn't it the greedy win at all cost attitude that is at the root of our current financial crisis?
Isn't that what brought us steroids in sports?
It all seems very misplaced...

I'll have to go with what Obama said about six times during the debates: “Senator McCain is Absolutely Right.”
Obambi couldn't be wrong could he?
