Post#1 » by ray ray » Fri Mar 6, 2009 3:45 pm

We all know that the Suns are in the midst of their hardest schedule in the Season. Today's games versus the Rockets is a must win game! I started doing some research on the Suns opponets schedule. Mavs current record: 37-25
Date Opponents
7-Mar Wizards
10-Mar @ Suns
11-Mar @ Blazers
13-Mar @ Warriors
15-Mar @ Lakers
17-Mar Pistons
19-Mar @ Hawks
20-Mar @ Pacers
25-Mar Warriors
27-Mar Nuggets
31-Mar T-Wolves
1-Apr Heat
3-Apr @ Grizzlies
5-Apr Suns
8-Apr Jazz
8-Apr Hornets
10-Apr @ Hornets
13-Apr T-Wolves
15-Apr Rockets

Looking and quoting only the Mavs record because i just don't see the likes of the Blazers, Jazz and Rockets falling off the playoff picture. Maybe Houston but Dallas is the nearest opponent that the Suns can reach... That said, the Mavs have

*2 games against the Suns
*7 games against west playoff contenders

11-Mar @ Blazers
15-Mar @ Lakers
27-Mar Nuggets
8-Apr Jazz
8-Apr Hornets
10-Apr @ Hornets
15-Apr Rockets

* 2games vs. east playoff contenders
17-Mar Pistons
19-Mar @ Hawks

That should be a tough stretch for them and i don't think they can win half of those. Of course the Suns own strength of schedule is another matter... So yeah, just win and not worry about other opponents' games...

Over in the Don't Give Up Hope thread I posted the skeds of Suns/Dallas and guesstimate W/L

we have a real shot at Dallas, and if we beat them in our two games we would have the tiebreaker.

I think we have a pretty good shot passing them, they have a few issues going on over there. Cuban just called out his entire team, threatened to trade them all if they continued to play like they had been. Last night the Hornets beat them fairly easily in the second half, so they may be on the verge of imploding.........

looking at the skeds I think we go around 15-6 and the mavs anywhere from 7-14 to 12 - 9.
If we get a boost form Stro - just an infusion of size and speed and some D/rebounding - and beat who we ought to beat, we can do it. Assuming dallas doesn't overachieve. We're about through our worst stretch of top teams, Dallas is heading into theirs

I think our ability to get into the playoffs relies a lot on how Stro fits into our system and our effective/efficient he'll be. We need that extract energy and hustle that Stro should give and also help defense, something we've lacked since Amare went ballistic in the 2nd half of last season. What makes his signing good is that he's not expected to give us anything in term of scoring and anything he does give would be a bonus since we only need him for hustle, rebounds and help defense. While I'm definitely not saying he will be integral to our success, he will undoubtedly play a big role in achieving a playoff spot.

With Dallas seemingly to be the only playoff contender we could catch up to and with our own schedule, we should really just focus on our own games since we can't really do much if we win 0% of our remaining games and they win 75%. All we can do is win the two games against them and hope we'll have the better record by playoff time.

Strange, though, after the last few years when we only worried about first round matchup and home court - now we're just fighting to even be in the post-season.

Well the Mavs are probably going to beat the Wizards tomorrow. If the Suns lose on Sunday at San Antonio and then lose at home to Dallas on Tuesday night, you might as well stick a fork in them because they would be 5 back in the loss column with 18 to play.

The Suns' final 4 games of the season:

10-Apr @ Grizzlies
11-Apr @ Wolves
13-Apr Grizzlies
15-Apr Warriors

They may seem like ass teams. Well, they ARE, actually. But they will be happy to play the
role of a spoiler, if you know what i mean.

Ass teams are ass teams. That bodes well for the Suns. They need to be in position to make the playoffs at that point. 2 point loss in the Rockets... and Stromile has room to improve in terms of fitting in.

He needs to gel in fast so the Suns can be at their best.

--- Dallas/Wizards tonight and we have SA tomorrow. By rights, we'll be heading into next week 4 games out.
