Steve Nash Defends Shaq Trade

Post#1 » by The Diesel » Thu Apr 23, 2009 8:42 am

Hey guys,

I was just remembering what Nash said last week when the team met with the media and he defended the Shaq trade and insisted the Suns were too small to get past the Lakers last year if they kept Marion.

He says the Lakers had too much size with Odom, Bynum, and Gasol.

Do you agree or disagree?

Thanks.

Yeah . . . that was the main reason for the trade. There's no secret about that.

imo shaq wasn´t even the main problem this year. he did much more we were asking of him. who thought he would nearly post a 20/10 season??? i wouldn´t even disagree if you told me before the season he would average 12/8...

i totally agree with nash, but i also think that we have to trade him in point of the salarie situation.
if we wuldn´t have this cheap owner ( sorry mr. sarver ) i would want to see this team with a defensive minded sg and and a defensive sf. mixed uo with our " twin towers " i think we could definitly make the playoffs.... harhar

poor Shawn hasn't done $hit since he left PHX, he's unheard of nowadays. I think Shaq has been a great acquistion, just didn't work out witht the whole coaching change and Amare getting hurt.

nash is right. Now if we are going to keep shaq and amare, we guys who can spot up and shoot and guys who can defend. next is, how the hell is sarver that cheap?? Look at the contracts this man has brought in. Now that is sick. Im not defending him because the man has made some horrible decisions. I would say need needs better advisors around him to spend wisely. Money does not mean you win.

Nash is also wise to say something because we all know how shaq likes to leave a team.

Now if he did not force Kerr into such a bad trade (this might be your cheapness argument of saving 16 mil) and giving away 2 picks to make it happen. If kerr had some balls, he should have said lets wait for the trade deadline and see what we can get for KT because he will be of more value to us and we will have to give up less in the process.

^^^yah brother you´re right, sarver is not that cheap everybody is saying, but if we want to win it all or want to be in the playoffs he has to realize that we need some more players who can, like you said, defend and shoot the three. those players are not found on veteran minimums or on cheap contracts. look at the playoffs, since kg and leon powe went down there is a third player on the roster who did not the whole season and now is able to step in and play some solid minutes. where is this guy in phoenix. or even look at new orleans. they signed posey to a ridicolous contract, but this guy just won titles. these are the difference-makers to be in or out the playoffs.

remember the time googs played here. we had bo outlaw backing him up, we got clifford who could have played the pf spot and we got an rookie called ama´re. this season we had no one stepping up at the 4 spot, why? we laid all our trust in a rookie big man and, in all respect, in a guy who hustles and airballs free throws....

but again, sarver is no cheap man - right now he spends alot of money for nothing...

We definitely needed to do something. The team didn't have enough presence in the paint to deal with the Lakers/Spurs/Celtics.

The thing that annoys me even more is STILL that the Lakers turned their trash into Gasol, and we had to give up 2 firsts to move KT...

--- Everybody was up in arms about how terrible the deal was for Memphis; no-one said a word when Kerr let himself be raped in the KT trade. I understand that Kurt was going to cost us huge $$$ due to the tax, but my god - $two unprotected firsts, an $8mil TE and a solid vet for a *restricted* second round pick?
As salt in the wound, SEattle/OKC did considerably better when they sent KT to the Spurs at the deadline.
I don' t have the hear tot look up how it finally turned out but it's up there with Tom Sawyer's fencepainting hustle and the family cow/magic beans swap ...

edit: I had to look, like a guy with gangrene peaking under the sheet to see how much it's spread.

Sonics/Thunder got Brent Barry, center Francisco Elson and a 2009 first-round draft pick.
In sum, they got three 1st round picks and short-term guys that didn't matter one way or the tother
PX got a second round pick and a trade exception I believe we let expire.

Sweet ....
