If he wants something comparable salary-wise, we may as well keep him. He's not going to be max-contract, and without him, the team is literally a 20-win team. He seems worth the money to me.
Sessions is a FA and plays like Nash. He would be AWESOME on this team.
Andre MIller is a FA and plays a Nash'esq game. Pass first, yet a decent defender.
Make a trade revolving around JRICH going to the Pacers for TJ Ford. Ford has so much upside and is a pest on D.
There are many options out there, you just need to know where to look. Now im not calling these players "elite PG's", but in that sense, i dont consider Nash an elite PG either. These are solid PGs that would fit great in our uptempo system.
According to this article on hoopsworld about DAL signing Marion, the might be shopping Howard for a SG.
Hoopsworld wrote:........So essentially what the Mavericks accomplished was they added another wing player in Marion who plays the same position as Josh Howard, with the initial thought being that they could play Howard at the two. While that could certainly work, if we look at the rest of this trade, it seems more likely the team will make a subsequent move to acquire a true shooting guard - one who makes them a contender.
............Consider for a moment two teams who are looking to cut salary, and also happen to have a gaping hole in the middle after moves made to date. First on the list is the Phoenix Suns, and while Suns' owner Robert Sarver's first choice isn't dealing with Dallas, he's not having much luck getting a deal done to cut additional costs. The Suns are said to be interested in moving Jason Richardson, and his deal is close to enough that a trade for Dampier would work . . .and give Phoenix a center to play ahead of Robin Lopez.
Richardson would be a great fit in DAL and give them a chance to be contenders with a starting 5 of:
Kidd,JRICH,Marion,Dirk,Gortat.
Since they just resigned Kidd to a 3 year contract, and have a rookie with potential in Roddy Beaubois, could they afford to give up J.J Berea to obtain a SG that gives them more of an edge?
I propose we trade JRICH for Howard/Berea. It fills both teams holes. Them @ SG and us @ PG/SF. This way we could afford to trade Nash for quality role/bench players. If we did that and sent Wallaces contract to PHI for Dalembert, that would give us a young starting 5 of:
Berea/Barbosa/Howard/Stat/Dalembert.
5 young guys to restart a franchise with. I know Howard has been a knucklehead in the past (420), but if he doesnt work out for some reason, he is an expiring (same goes for Berea). Essentially if things didnt work out, we would STILL be getting rid of JRICH's 2010 pay saving us 13mill.
Take a ponder at that team. No one over 29 years, all athletic and talented, and all filling a role in the Run-n-Gun system.
