Start Amare a center, slide him to the 4 and bring Lopes off of the bench, no way we pay Chandler for an extra year with JRich on the payroll.

Which is why J-Rich needs to go, Frye or Lopez are not starters

Though I guess you could argue that they could buy out Wallace/Pav and be much cheaper. But that's just dumb.

No, it wouldn't, because we spend the money and it counts against our cap, but we don't get anyone to play for us. Basically, we need to do the Chandler trade. :)

Also, Nash is not going to ask for or get max money, that is 99.9% a false rumor. + There's no way they resign him for 28/2, and I wouldn't expect them to. I'd rather watch Dragic play 48 minutes at PG than pay a 37yo Nash 14million after this season. 7-8, yes. Anything more than that, and he's crazy. And this is coming from a die hard Nash fan, he's from my city after all.

You also from Vancouver/Victoria?

So with grant hill re-signed, wallace bought out at 10M, earl clark signed, channing frye signed, and pavs full contract, Hoopshype has us at $64,844,007, with Nash's option picked up we're at $77.9M, with 12 players signed.

Tax starts at about $70M

If we sign Taylor Griffin that puts us at the 14 players and around $79M. If we buy out Pavs we are at ~$75.5M and at the 13 player min.

Most of our MLE was used on Hill and Frye, so I see our only options to get a center and/or backup PG as the Vet Min, the LLE, Pavs contract in a S&T and $2M trade exception from the shaq trade. I doubt we do anything, possibly one more vet min player.

Nash/Dragic
JRich/Barbs/Tucker
Hill/Dudley/Clark
Amare/Lou/Griffin
Frye/Lopez

This is most likely our team, with $5.5M paid in tax

I added each salary one by one and got 77, are you sure its 64? Hoopshype does not count options in the grand total IIRC, just once they get confirmed and I dont think they have plugged nashs new contract in.

Hoopshype was including Nash's full 2009 salary about 3 weeks ago. I know because I added every salary. EC, Hill and Channing wasn't included then, nor Wallace buyout.

Are you refuting the current total or just making a statement?

My understanding is that buying out Ben means the whole $14 million comes off the tax amount, but stays on for cap purposes. Weird, but that's the NBA

So - if we were at say, $77mil we buy him out for $10 and our total towards the tax line is $60 mil. But he stays on the books for the salary cap. There's a big gulf between the cap and when the tax kicks in.

Hoopshype has us at $61+million, on the actual Suns page at their site saywe're at $64 million

http://hoopshype.com/salaries/phoenix.htm

and it does show Wallace at $10million in salary for this year so looks like the full $14 mil comes off the amount figure for the tax, and the $10 we actually paid are reckoned into the salary cap amount.
