The guy's not garbage by any means, he just isn't what we overly need, and he's so overpaid he can't be dealt. At least he'll be a good expiring in 2 years (?)

People here are so hard on JRich, its ridiculous. Come on people, when we got him Steve Kerr was saying how he's explosive, an underrated defender, etc. He's a solid second option on many teams, not a role player. Look what he did in Charlotte for god's sake. Maybe we don't need a JRich here but let's not let prejudice or unrest with our roster make us resort to name calling.

I think he did well there but overall I'm not sure if he's actually a player that we need to succeed. His scoring can be replaced by Barbosa, as can his defense. His rebounding is nice for that spot though. I think a lot of the anti Richardson sentiment comes from the fact that we traded two members of our core(who fit our needs better) for him, and then Kerr tried to spin it so obviously("HE'S A GREAT DEFENDER!") that it all just kind of fell flat. He's just had some boneheaded moments(Spurs game, 360 dunk attempt)+his off-court misdemeanors and I think as fans that's why we've soured on him.

I'm sure you didn't make those comments, but they were rampant. And the last time anyone judged Rich purely by his dunking ability was when he was in the dunk contest. I don't really know how someone with JRich's skillset cannot be considered a serviceable second/third option. Keep in mind, there are only a few NBA players who are well-rounded and talented enough in every category to avoid criticism for weaknesses, and they are making more than JRich anyway.

I liked the guy in GS, he fit the team and they fit him. But they shipped him because he was being overpaid, Charlotte did the same and so will we, The Lord Willing. He's probably a lovely guy, no-one questions that he has ability, but to be honest if Barbs had his minutes he'd give you the same numbers.

He;s good but nowhere near worth his contract. That's what everyone is down on.

According to the news report, Ben Wallace is supposedly going to be back up to Kwame Brown...read that again...BACK UP to KWAME BROWN. If that is how he wants to go out, I say let him have it. He wasn't going to be motivated if we kept him here; he just wants to end his career with the team who helped make him who he is, even if it is for role on the bench.

Thanks - another question: being a canuck I don't know a lot about college stuff down there but it seems like Duke players get a lot of crap from certain quarters. Where does that come from. I always thought the Blue Devils were one of the great programs, great coach, etc.

As for JRich, I never really liked the trade. Diaw and Bell gave us a lot of depth and even though Boris played like Doris consistently he was still one of our better big man defenders and his versatility really made SSOL go. Yeah Doris is overpaid but if it's a choice between paying for his versatility and defensive or JRich's one-dimensional game, I'd pay Doris. It's nice having another player who can put up 20 on any given night, but it doesn't mean it's good for the team. All-star numbers doesn't always translate into W's, check out Z-Bo's 20/10.

Bell did lose a step or two defensively but is still miles better than any back court defender we have. I would've been happy for Bell to play out his contract here and maybe resign him for cheap.

At this point, JRich's offensive production is a luxury we are overpaying, simple as that.

Yeah you're definitely right. Well part of it is just the rivalries among NCAA teams make everyone talk crap about other teams, and even more people everywhere talk crap about the powerhouses. But also with Duke, it is thought of as a school with a bunch of rich kids and a lot of people talk crap about that. I just said talk crap about three times. Four now. Good thing I'm not a journalist.
