Powell sounds wonderful. Why can't we just him for the league minimum? They've always got something to prove. Lou, Bird man, and Millsap all kicked trash last year on the min. Besides, we need someone who can score well off the bench besides barbs. If you look at his box score it's pretty impressive. Scored with layups, mid range shots, and 3 pointers on Portlands starters... That's saying something isn't it? How do you think he's gonna do against other bench players?

Wish we could keep him on the roster. We probably won't considering Tucker's and Griffin's guaranteed contract. The team carrying 14 players on the roster is very unlikely. I think Powell could make a lesser version of Von Wafer in this league.

Dropping TGriff won't cost money since it's not a guaranteed contract I believe. But picking up Powell means he's going to get the min which is actually more than TGriff's contract. TGriff is here only for financial reasons.

It is a disservice to both Tucker and the Suns to keep him. Buy him out, let him get on with a euro team where he could play regularly and polish up his skills. If he doesn't , he'll be experiencing yet another yr of practice, albeit for a million bucks :o . One more yr of not playing? Come on Tuck, ask for a buy out. CPowell wouldn't cost us but 800 Gs for the yr???? ... and really, while sLopez is out, we could 10 day him for a while couldn't we? (how many successive 10 day contracts can you do ?)

If CPowell continues to impress, he would be a very nice cheap investment for the future. If/when we ink Stat up big, we will need guys at 1 mill who can actually play.

I think the maximum 10 dayers in a row is two, then you have to sign them to a guaranteed contract. Either that or 3, but I think it is 2 as that is what Sims got last year I think.

Would someone mind giving me some basic background info on Powell? I know nothing about him/his game.

I do feel like FO must be taking a good look at him...I know its the preseason and T frickin Griff started a game, but I imagine starting Powell was a good way for them to see how he runs with the first team.

If he gets good minutes tonight I'm gonna have to assume Gentry could be pushing for him. But we'll see what happens

TASTIC wrote:Powell is basically a version of what we thought we were getting with Tucker - athletic, in-betweener, perimeter scorer who can take it in and absorb contact.

Except Powell is 2 inches taller, a lefty, and has 3 pt range. He's only 26, so it's not like he's much older than other prospects. He should stick, but won't cos of Sarver.

So yeah. To most of us it seems obvious we should and would play this guy ahead of Tucker...but there's NO takers for him it appears.

Seriously, can we not find ANY team looking to offload a disgruntled vet or young player (ie Sean Williams) and just give them Griffin AND Tucker, and keep Powell?

This looks A LOT better than what we have, which is saying something considering the additions are only really minor pieces.

Jeez just pick up JCollins for the post D and vet experience...and 6 fouls.

Holy wow that looks awesome.

Coro: "* Carlos Powell ... He started in place of Grant Hill, who had a sore ankle that probably would not have kept him out of a regular season game. Powell scored all 12 of his points in the first quarter. Don't get too enamored with him. Taylor Griffin has guaranteed contract money and Powell does not but at least Powell, who played in Korea last year, got to show why he has earned internal praise and become a popular camp mate. He wasn't flawless, making some rotation errors to make others look bad but he's got range, power and a nice feel for the game."

It just sucks that because T.Griffin is so cheap he will stay on the roster, while min and cheap players like S.Williams, Pops Mensu-Bonsu, Melvin Ely, etc... who would actually help this team are "too expensive."

I'd LOVE to get one of the players I mention above while keeping Powell. Get rid of Tucker and Griffin.
