Far as I'm concerned anything above 6 is acceptable and if he gets to 10, I'd be over the moon. But 7-8, fine.

It's a sad thing.

--- Mehhhh. I'm over it - he is who he is. If his defense improves even moderately, and he's getting position and boxing out, then that's fine. He;s helping the cause. Few can put up points the way Amar'e can and he is a dominant player.
It's a shame that he'll never be who he could be, which is an all-time great, but that's not up to us.

There's one thing I don't quite get though is why Grant Hill seems to rebound more often than Amar'e

One of the things I really like about this Suns team and especially the coaching is that Gentry seems to recognize that Amare doesn't especially like rebounding, but doesn't mind boxing people in so the wings can get to the ball if it bounces off the rim that way.

It's referred to as 'gang rebounding' and it has basically killed our instant-offense fast break, but has paid a lot of dividends in wins.

In other words: Even when he doesn't actually get the rebound, Amare and Channing have been responsible for getting a rebound or two into the hands of a wing (Hill, in particular) every game. Guys like Hill don't spontaneously jump up several rebounds in their average.

It should be noted, though, that Hill's career average for rebounds is 6.6; this isn't a huge outlier for him.
