I dont care how many 20 rebound games he has for his career. I want to see a more consistent effort from him on the boards. Amare doesnt need to 21 rebounds to show that he can dominate in the paint but he needs to prevent the guy that he is guarding form getting 18. kenny thomas is 6-7 and he got 18 rips in 27 minutes. I dnt care how many games he has had with 20 plus rebound game as long as he is consistent. he needs to dominate and by dominate I mean out play the other player in anyway shape or form. if dwight gets 20 rips and 20 points let him but if Amare gets 30 and 12 then that shows he has had a better game. if you look no one in orlando boards so dwight has to do it. here if amare can match the play of the other all star post player, ill take it. he did good tonite. he needs to play like that more often.

The real point is the Suns as a team are rebounding better as a whole on the season so one man getting 10 boards a game is overrated.

With that thinking if the Suns had a Horford, Z. Randolph, or any body else who can get 10 boards per game they would some how be unbeatable.

The Suns have good rebounders in Hill and Richardson who are grabbing a lot of boards while STAT boxes out. I have even seen Amare numerous times this season just flat out lose a sure rebound or not grab it with conviction and cost him 1-3 rebounds during those 5-7 or less rebound nights.

Yes he still appears to go through periods of lax effort on the boards but the Suns defensive scheme is totally different then with D Antoni and Porter so he finds himself away from the rim more than in the past which will totally take him out of the rebounding picture unless it's a jumpshot and there is a long board. This could actually improve his rebounding in the long term due to him having to adjust his technique and concentrate on boxing out more than in the past.

He will be fine and is rounding into shape as planned. Tomorrow he and the Suns will give the Lakers problems, much like they did the Celtics earlier. They now have something to play for as they were embarrassed last time against the Lakers. Suns will win and STAT will have a double double.

I see Collins and Lopez freeing Amare up on D so he can score the ball and roam for boards.

GO SUNS! 8-)

Amare grabbing 20+ rebounds is nice, but it will mean absolutely nothing when by this time tomorrow we'll be laughing at his 6 or less rebounds he'll be getting. He just isn't a good rebounder or defender. I'd prefer he average 8 RPG for the rest of his career if it means he learns to defend and actually force teams to take jumpers because of the fear of getting blocked. Instead, teams drive in on the Suns at will because we have no shot blockers, and our PF is about as defensively aware as a turtle on it's back.

We should really just make an official Amare performance tracker to avoid the daily "OMG AMARE GOT 20/6/3/0 REBOUNDS" threads.

You said it all here yourself. Sure MAYBE he is turning the corner, but history shows that he isn't. This is the main reason people still get on him when he has 20+ boards in a night. If he did it consistently, like we know and he proves he can then people wouldn't be on him all the time.

It would be much like if Nash averaged 3 assists per game and every now and again busted out with 15-20, we would all get frustrated and be calling him to do it more often. If Amar'e NEVER rebounded well, we wouldn't expect him to, but the fact is, much like today, he shows that he can, thus we get more and more frustrated.

Amare has a motivation problem. Gentry let the ball go through him on offense a lot in this game, and he got motivated to play the "leader" role. It's that simple.

I'm proud of Amare, but I wish he saved that performance for tomorrow.

No disrespect to STAT - Someone should make a poll and see if he will even get more then 10 rebounds tomorrow.

Not to blow your bubble here statisback, but when you run the PnR and your defender (the big man) switches to Nash, leaving you with the mis-match... It makes it a bit easier to grab a potential miss (a la Nash taking the big man or another outside shot).

One less big man in the paint = Amare better get that board.

21 rebounds is good, but it was because Amare was usually the tallest guy in the paint. He even started to hold the ball up after a board like a big man should do. It was nice. Too bad he always has to go down to reset before a put back.

I'd rather he average 9 rebounds a game than 6 rebounds a game and drop a 20 rebound game twice a season. It's consistency that we want.

He can be a really good rebounder if he focused more on it. He could easily get 11 per in this system if he actually went after them. If he had Bo Outlaw's motor he'd be at 12+ average.

Also, it looked like he stopped caring about them once he got 20, which was disappointing.

I think someone owes me an apology. Like I said it was one game and I doubt you'll see Amare baast for 14+ rebounds tonight against the LALA Lakers.

I'm pretty sure this thread's tone can be explained by the dual Suns fan neuroses of STAT being a problem and us worrying about the Lakers tonight.

And, really, if you were to pick the top five all-time neuroses of Suns fans, surely beating the Lakers and getting STAT to live up to his potential would be included.

Everyone's ecstatic he got 21, but we're not expecting a repeat. But we'd LOVE a repeat. But the odds of that happening against a Gasol/Bynum/Odom/Artest frontline rotation are slim. But if it DOES happen, we might have a shot at winning.

Catch my drift?
