It would be more than that because of other salary coming off the books.

According to hoopshype, the Suns are currently slated to have about $63 million on the books for next season. Take away Amare's $17 million contact and that comes to about $46 million. Add in a draft pick (not sure if you guys have your pick) and that's about $47 million. The cap is slated to be between $50 million and $53 million.

That's how I came up with the number $3-$6 million. If that cap is at $50 million, you will have about $3 million to spend. If the cap is at $53 million, you will have about $6 million to spend. Please correct me if I'm wrong with these figures and estimates.

Okay I understand now. I don't think it is of any consequence for the Suns to be above the salary cap next year. They will be under the tax limit and that is all the owners care about until J-Rich salary comes off in 2011. I think the bigger deal is to wait until the new CBA is negotiated before spending.

I say no to that deal because Kerr will not us taking a big step back. Kerr's number 1 priority is to keep the Suns competitive because competitiveness = money for Sarver. His 2nd priority is our future. As nice as it is having 18mil coming off the books in 2011, you have to remember that JRich comes off the books in 2011 as well. That's $14 mil off the books and if Hill picks up his option and retires the following season then that's another $3 mil off the books.

No matter how you look at it, I'd rather have Amare walk then having those money drains in our books. Not only does it make us look like complete idiots for taking on Curry (who's basically seen as untradeable) but we basically give the Knicks their "Gasol" and pave a way for contention with Amare. Unlike the Knicks who don't mind tanking to get this season over with, we're not going to tank so we can get a higher pick and to get through the season as quick as possible.

I don't see us letting Amare walk for nothing. He's either going to be resigned or we're going to do a S&T that will keep us competitive. Must note that Amare's value isn't that high if we trade him this season sicne he's got the PO and there's no guarantee he'll resign to the team he's traded to. But a S&T'ed Amare becomes a very valuable trading chip because it guarantees his future with the team. If we're going to trade him. it's more than likely we'll trade him after he's re-inked and when his value is high rather than trading him when he still has his PO.

No way. Rather have Amare walk then get a player with potential and trash. Suns don't do those kind of deals unless the players we get in return are expiring before the players we trade are. Only way a trade like that would go down is if the Suns package another player like Jason Richardson. Something like this:
Amare Stoudemire-16,400,00
Jason Richardson-13,333,000 (goes to 2010-2011)
Alando Tucker-2,000,000
for

Larry Hughes-13,650,00
Al Harrington-10,000,000
David Lee-7,000,000
Danillo Gallinari-3,000,000

This would be the fairest trade IMO.

Jennings is not any franchise's answer. He's going to score a lot of points and take a LOT of shots doing it. That's not what very many teams need.

Way too generous offer for the Suns in that scenario! Imagine Suns fans had been willing to trade Amare for the likes of Jamison and Biedrins, the potential of Hill, Chandler and NY's future #1 are much better package. I say Suns fans feast on it.

We have a cheaper version of Lee on our roster already, Lou. Why do we want to spend money on a fantasy player like Lee?

This one I am sure about. Sarcasm, right? No way you could be comparing Lou to Lee?

Honestly, we're not being that sarcastic. Lou can board and play D like a madman.

Lee is a much more polished version of Lou, same skill set plus better offense. Sweet Lou's my boy, so no knock on what he brings and I agree it's much the same thing Lee does. But Lee is honestly a step above - not to say Lou couldn't get there in short order if he gets some coaching. I wouldn't hate having both guys, kinda like the old Bullets had Gus Johnson and Wes.
Debusschere used to say it took him days to recover from playing the Bullets.

That's my eternal whine about the Suns ... why can't we ever add some toughness. Not change the whole damn style, or bring in Shaq, just get a big or two who backstop the defense and lay some flesh on people foolish enough to go inside?
That's about all Rolo is good for except he doesn't actually lay anyone out. If you're going to foul someone, get your money's worth

Lee has an offensive game while lou can't shoot worth s&%^. That's the difference between the two.

I'm a product of my era ....

I loved Maravich, Monroe, haywood, The hawk, all the high-flyers and early playground-style guys, but I also know that all of them played on teams with some big, tough Bill Bridges types who protected the basket.
Just makes sense
