If Nash can be smart and reserve his energy so that he plays the best ball of the season in the playoffs, like Stockton used to, then extend him as long as he could move. The key point is that Nash has to learn how to complement Amare and JRich (or another semi go-to scorer) and not force all burdens of leading a team on himself, like it's been the case. Since otherwise, the Nash led team is not gonna win anything.
