2011 "Expansion Draft" Pick 4 Suns

Post#1 » by Christine-In-AZ » Sat Apr 3, 2010 4:51 am

Imagine you have to assemble a team for next year, ala an expansion draft. Salaries mean nothing. This is just about building a team based on talent/effectiveness alone...and for just one season. Don't think "future".

Your first four player picks must be from the current Suns roster. After that your team would be filled out from other unprotected players in the NBA, with every team being able to protect 10 players. You'd be filling out the rest of your team (after your four Suns players) with everyone else's 11th and 12th men.

What four Suns do you choose?

I'm curious how this fills out.

I chose STAT(covers the 4 spot and is a decent 5), Nash (covers my 1), JRich (quality 2 and can play 3 in the some situations) and Dudley (solid 3 that can defend some 4s)

Nash and Amare for sure.
Personally I'd pick Dudley because he's Dudley.

Then it'd come down to Hill and Lopez.
Grant may be 37/38 yrs old but he's still got a lot left in the tank. Plus his BBIQ and point-forward abilities would be invaluable.
On the other hand, defensive minded big-men like Lopez don't grow on trees. Lopez is a great compliment to Amare and that would solidify the front-court.

My picks:
Nash, Amare, Dudley, Lopez

Lopez, STAT, Hill, Nash.

For one year I don't think the age of Hill or Nash would really matter. It was close between Hill and Dudley but Hill can score just as well as Dudley but is a better defender and ball handler. I think Hill can take pressure off Nash better than Dudley can because of his play making and ball handling abilities.

No consideration for JRich? (rhetorical)

...and Qwigglez

Just asking. You both think Dragic will/would be a better point guard then Nash for the 2010-11 season? Because that is the basis of my poll question. 1 season...next season.

I'd also pick Earl Clark for my fifth player since teams have five starters...
I'm not really that big of a Nash fan...

Amare/Dragic/Dudley/Lopez

The hardest part for me was picking Lopez over Jrich. People like to down the man, but he has game and has saved our asses on more then one occasion. Lopez is still a ? to me. He has some good games (not great games) and has some crap-tastic games. More crap-tastic then good, but he has one thing going for him, and that is potential. His potential is what made him make my list.

Since we are selecting for next year, i would take Dragic over Nash anyday. Dragic plays both sides (Offense/Defense), his passing skills are great (and improving daily), can hit the 3 AND DUNK! Someone steals the ball from him, he doesnt give up (like Nash does), he does his damnedest to get revenge. In another year or two, he will be straight Ballin! Nash is deteriorating before our eyes this year. He turns the ball over more this year (alot), doesnt play D, gives up on plays, and has picked up Ginobili's habit of whining and complaining to the refs all the time. I have never seen him complain so much in my life, and i think it will just get worse. Dragic, a God amongst men. Dragic FTMFW!

Hopefully Hill will end up retiring next year and Dudley can be our starter (he deserves it). He has awesome Jazz Hands:

Well so far most of you (though not many are chiming in) would go for the "one year only" team built around ...Nash/Amare/Dudley/Lopez

Hard to decipher, but the second most popular core is probably Nash/Amare/Dudley/Dragic (I guess with Goran playing the 2) or a Dragic/Amare/Dudley/Lopez

Still feel good about my Nash/Richardson/Dudley/Amare core to build a team off of ...feel it's good coverage for all the spots for this "next year only" team. I just don't think I could find a SG from everyone else's garbage. Nash, Amare and Dudley are absolutes. And while I'd like Lopez, picking him for me leaves a huge void in the backcourt. Dragic over JRich? If I see more of that "Goran Ginobilli" guy ...yeah! I might just do that.

Again, the idea/poll is just about next year. Not the future beyond it.
