Ryan Gomes

Post#1 » by Neelyboy » Sat Jun 26, 2010 6:10 pm

Portland is set to release him. He could be a great pickup for us, especially if Frye/Amundson leave because he can shoot the 3 pretty well and is a great energy player. http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/ ... yan_gomes/

:D
Even though we'd have a log-jam @ our forward spots, he'd be a solid pick-up.

He'd be really nice here for a cheap 1 year rental, he could boost his value here

wide body so even though he's a SF he could play some PF here I imagine

I really don't understand why Portland wouldn't at least try to trade him to a contender for a draft pick or something. But I saw that the Hinrich deal to Washington has to be delayed until July 8 because of salary cap reasons, so would Portland have to pay more for him if they weren't able to trade him before then, or am I just completely off-base?

They want cap space, I'm guessing. His deal is totally un-guaranteed so it's instant saving.

With the 2nd part, I think it's to do with the fact that both Portland and Minny are under the cap right now whereas both Washington and Chicago are over the cap so the trade will have to be sent to the NBA head offices for approval. Which means Gomes can be waived before June 30th.

Make this happen! He'd be a terrific pick-up and an excellent replacement for Frye. Before anyone says he's a SF, know that he's 6'8 with a 7'2 wingspan and a wide body. He will play PF here and may even play center in a small ball line-up. He's tough-nosed, plays defense unlike Frye and has more offensive junk to his game. Must sign!

He's a small forward not a power forward. We have a bunch of small forwards but I'd like him here. It's a chance to get a possible rotation guy down the line at the right opportunity. Sign him up Sarver...oh wait. you're too cheap never mind

I don't think he's a small forward in our line-up. On offense, he'd be a stretch forward but on defense he is versatile enough to defend the 3/4/5. He's 6'8, 250 pounds with a 7'2 wingspan. With that size, you can defend the post especially if you're on the Suns. Not to mention he played power forward in college. In fact, he's supposed to be a decent post player offensively.

Am I the only one who sees him as a Frye replacement than a swingman?

He's 6'8, 250, and long?

Get. him.

I believe he could contribute more than frye and lou, especially since he can 3 up. He could really do great for us and we could help advance his career.

Play him at the 4 when we go small and let Lawal play the 5.

We should sign him. He could be our backup 3 slide Dudley to the 2 Trade Barbosa for cap space use it to sign Gomes and Frye.

A bench of Dragic Dudley Gomes Clark Frye Lawal is great

I'm in - liked this kid for a long time. Just the kind of guy I'd like to see here

I bet you all are wanting to hear more about My Vision for the Suns. Well, since you ask ...

Long, tough players who will play team D, interior size and athleticism and can run - lots of offense coming out of defense, like the old Celtics. Perfect system for Nash and Dragic, helps minimize Nash's deficiencies, move Duds to shooting guard/swing SF, same with Hill

Brilliant, isn't it?

waits for applause to die down ......

I've never thought of Gomes as a 3-point shooter. Then again, I didn't think of Frye either

Gomes is a 3/4 on offense and a 3 on defense ,if you play him as a 4 defensively you are going to have a lot of problems.
