seriously,what was the point in letting marion our best defender go for shaq,that trade was all a waste and when shaq came thats when things started going down hill and to make things worse give him away for free?

Amare signed an extention the next year for the max
Marion was getting paid almost 20M
Nash and Q were getting almost 20M combined
Sarver decided to let JJ walk even though he would have been better off trading Marion and signing him, Q was traded for KT. That was still about 60M between those 4 guys. A few years later, KT is traded for a trade exemption freeing 8M, Marion and Banks were traded for Shaq who are both off the books now which freed up 20M, Amare is going to leave freeing up about 20M.
That's what caused this team to be over the luxury tax and trade away pick after picks, now that they finally got under the luxury tax even after signing Frye and Warrick they will still be in good shape when J-Rich's contract expires next year and Nash and Hill in 2012. Even though Frye got overpaid they will still be in good shape under the new CBA by not having any long term commitments.
