We Can Become Instant Contenders? (My Rebuild Plan)
Before I go on any further I would like to point out that this is strictly NOT a Doomsday Thread. I have confidence in our current team that we can make the playoffs, BUT it is possible that this team will just not jel and play well together.
So in the hypothetical circumstance that we have no chance of making the playoffs based on our performance in the first half of the season, I would consider doing the following trades.
1st Trade
PHX Receives:
Brandon Bass
Ramon Sessions
JJ Redick
Orlando's 1st
Anthony Parker
CLE Receives
Vince Carter
Orlando's 2nd
Orlando Receives
Steve Nash
Grant HIll
The Suns do this trade because they gain extra pieces. (The use of these newly acquired pieces will become clearer later. Cleveland receives Vince Carter's large expiring contract, which will help them during their rebuilding stage. Orland does this trade because they become a hot favourite for the Ring with a lineup of D12, Lewis, Hill, Q-Rich, and Steve Nash
Second Trade
PHX Receives
Josh Smith
2nd Round Pick (their own)
ATL Receives
J-Rich
Dudley
Clark
Lawal
The Suns add an amazing athlete and player in Josh Smith, who will bring defense and high flying dunks to Phoenix. The Hawks do this trade because they get young talent, and a large expiring contract for Smith, who may be leaving for Free Agency. They do this trade to gain assets for Smith instead of losing him for nothing come off-season. They also have more money to spend on re-signing the younger/better Al Horford.
Third Trade
PHX In
Wilson Chandler
NY In
Orlando’s First
2nd Round Pick (Phoenix’s, via Atlanta)
The Knicks get their 1st round pick in roder to complete the Melo trade. They only have to give up a player who was not even projected to be their starting 5.
Phoenix Suns Lineup
Rolo/ Frye/ Siler
J.Smith/ Bass/ Warrick
Hedo/ Childress/ Parker
Chandler/ JJ Redick
Dragic/ Sessions
The Sun’s starting unit has become more stronger, on defense, as well as offense. Hedo will help Dragic with the ball handling duties. The work of Josh Smith and Lopez will earn us a lot of points in the paint.
The second unit becomes a three-point shooting machine with Redick, Parker, and Frye. Ramon Sessions will finally get some good minutes to prove himself, and Josh Childress will play the role of Shawn Marion; slashing and finishing off alleyoops.

Re: We Can Become Instant Contenders? (My Rebuild Plan)
This looks like fun! Here's my try for a rebuild/fire-sale:
Trade #1: http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=294at5a
Phoenix gets: Arenas/Mayo/Anderson/Orton/McGee/1st
Orlando gets: Nash/Hill/Haddadi
Memphis gets: Nelson/Clark
Wizards get: Jrich/Gortat/Young
Orlando gets Nash and Hill to fill out their starting 5, and Haddadi to replace Gortat behind Howard. Memphis gets the point guard that they have always lacked in Nelson and young talent in Clark, they give up Mayo, but have Xavier Henry ready to take over. Wizards finally dump Arenas for a huge expiring in Jrich (who would do great next to Wall), and the also get a true starting C in Gortat. Young is just filler. Suns get their next great PG in Arenas, Mayo to fill in Jrich's spot, McGee to back up Lopez, Orton (a 3rd string C that is a project), and a 3 point shooting PF in Anderson.
Trade #2: http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=2e6kvyr
Hill+Dragic = Frye's $5.2 Mill
Phoenix gets: Randolph/Azubukie
New York gets: Frye/ORL 1st
D'antoni gets the 3 point shooting starting C that make his cock hard. He also gives up Randolph and gets the 1st rounder that they need to pick up Melo. Suns get their starting PF and a gunner to back up the Turk.
Arenas(4)/Dragic(1)
Mayo(1)/Childress(5)
Hedo(4)/Azubukie(1)/Dudley(1)
Randolph(2)/Warrick(3)/Anderson(2)/Lawal(3)
Lopez(1)/McGee(1)/Orton(2)
**Numbers in parenthesis are years left on current contract.
In the offseason, re-sign Mayo/Lopez/McGee/Dragic. Maybe Azubukie.
Try to find a sucker to take Warricks deal, or make a move using Anderson and/or Orton.

that team might be worse than what we have already. Dragic is not ready IMO to be a starter yet, and there is no clear go to guy on the team. If it's Hedo, thats kinda scary. We give up a great backcourt in nash/jrich to add a little to the frontline. Doesn't make sense to me

IMO McGee is untouchable. He has the potential to become a Top 5 Center in the League. The Wiz won't give him up.

Re: We Can Become Instant Contenders? (My Rebuild Plan)
Sorry but not a fan. In my mind, our starting line is actually weaker offensively, with less consistent three pt shooting resulting in horrible spacing. You'd need to start Redick over Chandler.
We may get more athletic but I have never liked the prospect of JSmith as a 4 in the west, he is too small to guard the 4s in this conference. We don't get any bigger with Frye and Warrick as our backup bigs, even Bass is undersized. Smith, Chill and Chandler are all the same mold of player, and the upside of our depth is questionable.

Re: We Can Become Instant Contenders? (My Rebuild Plan)
We all seem to have mixed opinions on this. I myself thought this was a huge upgrade over the team we have now, but take into account I thought of this just before i went to sleep.
I still personally think its a better team, but hey, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

Dragic, Chandler and J-Smoove being an upgrade over Nash, J-Rich and Hill? (If we're talking just about our starting unit) HOF-er, borderline all-star and proven leader and defender isn't in any world worse than young borderline PF with two young potential starters IMHO.
EDIT - but hey, you're right. We're going to need some rebuild. In 1-2 yrs, not yet.

Re: We Can Become Instant Contenders? (My Rebuild Plan)
If we want to give Nash a chance to win a ring before he retires, I don't see why we can't pull those trades off. Plus, we'll have our own 1st rounder. Maybe "instant contenders" was a bit too ambitious. But with that lineup, and a year more of experience for the young guys, and a full year of building up chemistry, I can't see why that team cannot contend in 2011 - 2012?

Re: We Can Become Instant Contenders? (My Rebuild Plan)
I appreciate your intentions, but 1) I'd trade Nash and/or Hill only if they asked for it. Though I'd be more moral than this bussiness is, so take it only from fan's perspective. 2) I could be mistaken, but your team would be far from being contenders IMHO. J-Smoove being best player, Hedo being leader, ...etc. This team would be worse than the one we actually have. I'm looking forward to see us this season and I want us to play well just to prove all who've created all those more-or-less doomsday threads wrong.

Re: We Can Become Instant Contenders? (My Rebuild Plan)
I made it pretty clear that it isnt a doomsday thread.
So if this season doesnt work, it's pretty good to have a Plan B. This was exactly the purpose of this thread.
Before I go on any further I would like to point out that this is strictly NOT a Doomsday Thread. I have confidence in our current team that we can make the playoffs, BUT it is possible that this team will just not jel and play well together.

I got it. Plus I liked your reasonable trades. And it's likeable as Plan B. Though I don't like it as a way to improve our team to the point where we can be contenders in a year. On the other hand there is no way to achieve that. We don't have star player around his prime plus so much trade assets Boston had few years ago. Nor we have superstar and plenty of salary space like Miami this offseason (plus who knows how new CBA will look like). We're going through tough times during post-Nash era. BUT!! so we were few times ago. First D'Antoni's team didn't look quite as good as next year too (though there were some promises - young Stoudamire and Barbosa, proven Johnson and Marion). But we got Steve Nash by some chance and we're pretty good by that time. Hopefully something similar wil happen in future.

Re: We Can Become Instant Contenders? (My Rebuild Plan)
I decided to post on this thread as it has more replies... My rebuilding plan has to be able to happen after we can trade Frye, as I don't want him around in my vision of the Suns...
Nash + Hill --> Orlando
Nelson + R. Anderson + Pietrus --> Phoenix
Orlando will want to keep Gortat as Howards backup and they play together occasionally. Hill Takes Pietrus's place as the bench stopper who can shoot corner three's
J-Rich, Frye, and Lawal --> Atlanta
Josh Smith and Crawford -- Phoenix
Let Crawford go, Josh Smith starts... Atlanta can play Horford at PF with Frye at C, J-Rich will cost about the same as Crawford to extend while being better. Lawal's a hometown kid who stayed there for College. The locals will like it
If we pull these late enough and suck enough, we get a mid-late lottery pick (if the sky does indeed fall down) and draft any of the following
http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Perry-Jones-5713/
http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Enes-Kanter-5168/
http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Jon ... unas-5622/
http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Jar ... nger-5029/ (measures 6-9 now, not 6-8)
http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Mason-Plumlee-5231/
http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Tre ... kins-5254/
http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Marcus-Morris-5178/
Most of those are technical PF's with good post up moves... I put them in order of who I'd want
We roll out with
Nelson / Dragic
Pietrus / Dudley
Hedo / Childress
Smith / Drafted awesomeness (I'd be hoping for Perry Jones or Enes Kanter here)
Lopez / R. Anderson (Frye's roll, just younger, and with more potential)
Childress, Pietrus, and Anderson are tradeable assests for some disgruntled superstar 2 or 3 years down the road. They'd be use-able in getting whatever piece we would need to get over the hump.
Might also add that I like Kerrsed's plan as well

Re: We Can Become Instant Contenders? (My Rebuild Plan)
We're not doomed just yet, but since we're all going crazy with the Nash and Hill trades, I thought I'd do something that's a little more likely to happen. I love RoLo, and believe him to be part of our core, but I do think management wants to win now and sell tickets and go for a run before Nash is done.
With that said, I've heard quite a few things about Al Horfod not signing his extension for many reasons, one part being him wanting to be moved to the PF position full time.
My proposal at first was simple. Robin Lopez and Hedo Turkoglu for Josh Smith and Zaza.
Then I started getting creative, and came up with a three team trade:
ATL:
- Josh Smith & Future 2nd Rd Pick
+ Robin Lopez & Hedo Turkoglu
Lopez/Pachulia
Horford/Williams
Hedo/Williams
Johnson/Crawford
Bibby/Teague/Crawford
PHX:
- Robin Lopez, Hedo Turkoglu, Gani Lawal
+ Hamed Haddadi & Josh Smith
Haddadi/Frye
Smith/Warrick
Hill/Chill
Rich/Dudley
Nash/Dragic
MEM:
-Hamed Haddadi
+ Gani Lawal & Future ATL 2nd
Conley/Law
Mayo/Allen
Gay/Henry
Randolph/Arthur
Gasol/Thabeet
Haddadi is a wasted talent on Memphis with 2 young, promising centers that they already have. Josh Smith is a perfect fit in our system, and adds an extra aspect we have never seen from the star on our team: DEFENSE! The man is an absolute machine on that end of the court, locking down opponents and recording 2+ steals and blocks per game on a regular basis. His rebounding is also above average, and playing alongside Nash, he would see his scoring sky rocket. Haddadi could easily man the middle, even though he has much to prove in the NBA, he has quite a bit of Olympic experience where he dominated in 2008 being the only player averaging a double double (16/11, which is RIDICULOUS). He's a tad bit slow, but the man is 7'2, and can protect the paint and he plays like a man.
Imagine being big and strong and physical inside while still being the run & gun Suns. We can relight a fire under Nash and Hill and get club rolling again.
Let's not forget... it was only a few months ago we were playing for the NBA Finals against the eventual Champions...

^ I really like that trade. But I doubt ATL will take on Hedo's contract months after signing Joe Johnson to a max contract.

I think ATL is looking to shed some $$$ in order to pony up for Horford. They may have to make a tough decision on Smith. I think he may be more valuable to others than what we can offer.... w/o moving you know who.
