Dowdell signed for the rest of the season

Post#1 » by KopLegend » Sun Feb 6, 2011 3:23 am

Dowdell said he was pulled into the flim room after Friday's game by Blanks & Babby and told he'd be signed for the rest of the season.

Dragic's injury came at the right time for him. Ether way, i'm pleased as we'll be able to rest Nash more in practice, and Dowdell's hasn't been bad the last couple games.

He's a practice player unless we get an injury to one of our guards like Dragic. Nevertheless, he has been OK thus far in game. Still doesn't have a PG's mentality though. Don't understand why we bring in all these undersized guards but none have a pass-first mentality (Dowdell, Jannings)

Obviously this proves the Suns are going to trade Nash and hand Dowdell the keys to the offense.

Have you been watching the games? Or just going by what he did in SL? He's barely looked to shoot at all, and the times he has, he should be shooting. He's made some passes that reminded me of the way Nash passes (the bounce passes through traffic to the big guys). Plus he's got pesky hands and tends to poke the ball away from the other guard at least once a game. He's impressed me more than Dragic by far this season.

I agree with Grumpy on that. Dowdell is a changed player from what he was in the SL. To be really honest, i think he set up the offence better than Dragic on some occasions. He is never just standing still-always movingoff the ball to find space, and when he does have the ball, he keeps his dribble and never rushes.

One thing I have noticed about Dowdell is that although his mid range jum shot looks pretty good, he doesnt seem to have any confidence to hit the 3.

I think the Suns have enough confidence to hit the 3 from other players. Wouldn't mind seeing Dowdell at point with Dragic at the 2 for a bit when Dragic comes back. See how that goes...

Disappointed in his focus on offense, but we need a backup pg.

Dowdell is atrocious this kid can't run an offense, all he does is dribble the ball in the ground.

He is more of a PG than Dragic. Great handles and a quick defender. Goran is obviously a much better player and i wouldn't be opposed to GD being the SG of the future. Dowdell still has a ways to go but can be a solid backup in time. I'm a kool aid drinker though so...

I am more comfortable with Dowdell than Dragic at this point and time. I like his defense, attitude and willingnessto pass the ball. He looks good so far; and for all of you couch potatoes calling him a scrub, practice player, horrible play etc......statements like those really show your lack of talent recognition or disdain for players.

Judging by your posts, I am beginning to wonder if you have every seen a Phoenix Suns game before...

Whoever says Dowdell isnt doing a solid job, isnt watching games. He had a few bad possesions against the ultra quick Earl Boykins, but other than that, he has been very solid. People are right, at times he has run the team better than Goran. He is hesitant to shoot the three because there is no way he has the ultra green light, and I think he is trying not to make the same mistakes he made in summer league. In summer league, he was trying to stand out to get a job, here he is trying to fit in, smart man. I love his defense and athletisisim, and think him at the point, with Dragic at the Sg. would look good.

Dowdell = 12 mins of rest for Nash with no-disaster on the court for Suns.

He's running offense very well, I think he's really smart, has nice pass ability, good court vision, above-average dribble skills and maybe a little bit nervous, but solid moves in D. 100% for signing him
Offense wins games, Defense wins championships...

This statement is (Please Use More Appropriate Word). Dragic doesn't do what you just said? The 2nd unit's looked more active all-together with Dowdell so far, not to mention Dowdell's played in what... 3 games his entire career? How awful was Dragic the first half of his first season? Dowdell is 10x better than GD was when he played his first 3 or 4 games. smh at you.

I'm always happy to see a man who has worked hard on his game - mental and physical - make it in the NBA. All NBA players are gifted, but he, like Nash*, wasn't handed his job.

A logical, good signing.

* For those who do not understand the parallel, I'd like to note that I am NOT comparing Dowdell's talent level to Nash's, merely that both had to work hard for what they got, and that it took them several years to get there.

Good move, saw a Q&A in the Republic with Dowdell and he sounds much more mature than many other players in the league. I think Dowdell could become something special if he works with Nash and develops. Comparing him to Dragic after only 3 games of actual playing time is silly, but we have already seen that Dowdell possesses a similar court vision that makes Nash so special.

Really happy for Dowdell. I have loved what I've seen and I particularly enjoy watching him getting into the paint and being able to find a guy in there. Hopefully this can light a fire under Goran, but I believe Goran hasn't been close to full fitness all year. This should be an example that hard work and perserverance can get you a job in this league, no matter who you are.
