Obviously I'm not diminishing Marion's value, but your best rebounder shouldn't be a small forward. That falls on Amare a bit, and it also falls on management for not getting him adequate help down low too. Marion wasn't going to be an exclusive post defender/rebounder because, as you said, he guarded all five positions and did so many OTHER things too. Kurt Thomas helped, but it was still brutal overall.

The Suns weakness was rebounding, and the Suns weakest front court rebounder was.....Amar'e.

Sure, as you noted--The Suns eventually found him help in Kurt Thomas..So what does Amar'e do? He finds a NEW way to lose by getting his ass out of his seat in 2007. He's just a loser when the chips are down. Do I blame him for getting up? Not entirely...but that's the point: if it wasn't rebounding, it was turnovers...if it wasn't turnovers, it was injuries. If not injuries, he's getting suspended...That's just the player he is.

Let's also not forget how maddening it is to listen to him talk:

We need an athletic power forward with a high defensive rating (but who isn't an offensive liability).

There are, of course, the big names (Garnett, Duncan, Nowitzki, Aldridge, Bosh, Odom, etc). But other than the stat whores, no one knows who the good defenders are. My wish list for a defensive power forward, excluding those big names:

1) Amir Johnson
2) Josh Smith
3) Thaddeus Young
4) Nene
5) Varejao
6) Andrew Bogut
7) Ersan Ilyasova
8) Paul Millsap

Amir Johnson still has trouble staying out of foul trouble. His foul rate is better this season but he's still averaging almost 4 fouls in only 26mpg. I like him as a rebounder and PnR'er but his tendency to foul has always put me off.
