Do we use the amnesty?
To my knowledge, we haven't used the amnesty clause. Will / Should we use it and on who?
Personally, I think we should get rid of Warrick.

Re: Do we use the amnesty?
theres no reason to use it before the end of this season, we might as well wait till we need the cap space to sign people, and use this season to assess the true value of players like warrick and J-chill... it alos depends who we get in the upcoming draft and how rookies/free agents etc. pan out

For this season. It can be used once by a team through the duration of the current CBA. As the previous poster mentioned, there's really no reason for the Suns to use it this season. Why use it now when there might be a stronger need for it in future seasons (they'll most likely use it next season). The Suns aren't planning on signing any more players this year, so amnesty-ing anyone at this time really wouldn't make any sense.

Also, you can only use amnesty on players who were already on the payroll when the current CBA was signed. That means we cannot take on a bad contract in the future then amnesty that player.
From Larry Coon (CBA guru):

Amnesty provision
• 2005 CBA: One player can be waived prior to the start of the 2005-06 season. The salary of the waived player will not count toward the luxury tax.
• 2011 CBA: One player can be waived prior to the start of any season (only one player can be amnestied during the agreement, and contracts signed under the new CBA are not eligible). The salary of the waived player will not count toward the salary cap or luxury tax. Teams with cap room can submit competing offers to acquire an amnestied player (at a reduced rate) before he hits free agency and can sign with any team.

right - that's my point, or my question rather - if you acquire a large contract in a deal, and it was signed under the old CBA, can you amnesty that player? As worded it appears to be any contract under the old CBA, not specifically those with a given team

That's a pretty good question, and I haven't seen an answer to it. I was under the assumption that a team could only use it on players that were signed with their team prior to the 2011 CBA. But if what you have described is possible, that makes this amnesty clause a little more interesting.
Also, back to the OP, originally I thought Warrick may be amnestied, but I think now, no one will. We'll need the depth we have now for this condensed season. Probably during next offseason, if we need to clear even more cap room.

Re: Do we use the amnesty?
If Hak shows a reliable midrange game, and makes an effort to learn the defensive schemes and rebound, he'll get minutes and be useful. Last year he was mostly dead weight. Which is a shame given his athletic gifts.
He'll be an expiring next year, no. third year guaranteed, with a team option for the next?
Frank's timeline on the other thread is cheery reading - we may come out of this season in very good shape going forward - Love and Westbrook, to a solid young core? Or something similar? There will be joy in Whoville
can't wait for some games ...

Re: Do we use the amnesty?
I don't know how accurate hoopshype is, but it shows Warrick is contracted till 13/14 season. I'd imagine either Childress or Warrick will be our amnesty target, and that will be very dependent on how they play this season (like you said about Warrick JV).
If we were to amnesty one of those, we could conceivably bring our salaries down to around 22mil next offseason. Then we'd really be hoping to land a big FA.

Re: Do we use the amnesty?
Warrick's last year is a team option, from what I remember. If they use both Chill and Warrick correctly this year, their contracts won't seem so bad. The real question may not be worrying about the amnesty, it is whether or not we extend Nash. If we do, then there might be an amnesty used next year.
But if we sign Brooks for cheap instead of extending Nash, I could see Sarver saving his money instead of spending it on an amnestied player, and the guy they bring in to take his spot. Remember we are talking about a guy who not only rushed to get rid of KT (our best big defender at the time), along with two unprotected first just to save a few million. That same summer, he also gave away Jones, and Rudy. He also gave away a Rondo pick just to avoid paying Grant's $1.9 million contract.

Re: Do we use the amnesty?
Did I hear Warrick is gonna get some time at the Sf. this year??? Probably mostly on the back to back to back streaches to give Grant some rest, witch is probably Where having 3 Pg.s is gonna come in handy for Nash. What do you guys think about Hak at the 3??? We can all agree he isnt a traditional Pf. but has been continually forced to play there because he is almost 6'10 and athletic even though he has no natural desire to bang, no real post moves to speak of, and no size to be a banger with. In college he played 4 cause Melo played the 3, maybe this is his chance to stop being the square peg being jammed into the round friggin hole. He can be a slasher, finisher in our ofense I hope.

We might as well trade Warrick for cash.

I liked Hak alot before last year - hopefully he can make me a fan again. Team says he worked very hard on his game over the layoff

I don't think we use Amnesty until the season is over, maybe making more room for FAs
SHAZAM!
Suns traded Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder and 4 1st round picks and a swap so some Vegas Bookies would like us.
