Actually it pretty easy to see him fail if you are watching for the right thing. It boils down to this chart.

Top defensive rebounder is Frye followed by Morris, Gortat, and Lopez, respectively. Our four big men are the best defensive rebounders which is as expected. Even then Lopez at 15.7 seems to be a bit weak for a center. Now ... Gentry plays Warrick at PF a lot. You would expect him to be at #5 spot. Instead he is #8 at 9.2 only slightly better than Childress and Ronnie Price. Dudley, Hill, and Brown are all rebounding better at the SG and SF position.

Start watching how Warrick blocks out his man ... he doesn't. He gives up a lot of offensive rebounds and easy put backs. That really impacts his plus/minus.

Hak is a stringbean... cant body up on bigger guys. Seems like they are running him more at SF to avoid mismatches. He just cant handle dudes 30-40 lbs bigger than him.

I can see Morris getting 30 minutes a night before the season ends.... if he can keep the whistlers at bay.

Yes simply because Frye is garbage. Never for once (during the last season at least) did I like him. He's a PF playing a SF game. Just watch him. Dude doesn't rebound. All of the rebounds he gets are the lucky bounces. He's a 6'11 Kyle Korver who doesn't hustle as hard as Kyle Korver.

And FYI, it's not like I won't forgive players. Warrick's indeed pretty well this year. His shots look like they're going in and he just feels a little more aggressive.

Just with the eye test, it's hard to know how often it happens. But I feel like I see him just standing there as guys go by him all the time. He doesn't fight to maintain position, and he's just sort of awkward about positioning. He's terrible at helping and then quickly recovering--if he helps at all, his man is gonna be open for a dunk. I don't feel like his bulk is the primary issue, because the bigger issue is that guys get by him (and does KG really have that much mass on him)? I'd love to see his Synergy numbers, but I can't imagine that changing my central conclusion: he's a terrible defender.

JohnVancouver wrote:What's Nash's defense like, stats-wise?

Slightly below average or right at average according to RAPM. 10 year RAPM has him slightly above average, which is better than guards like Kobe and Wade. He hustles and is savvy, but he over-helps and leaves shooters open too often, and he's short enough that guys can just shoot over him sometimes.

His poor defensive rep comes primarily from those Suns teams that were giving up 120 points all the time, but that really comes back to:
1) higher scoring games because of the fast pace, and
2) the awful defense of Amare Stoudemire.

Nash was the face of teams with high-octane offense and mediocre defense, so he will forever be associated with that, even if it had very little to do with him.

So let me get this straight, our best rebounder at 8.7 boards in less than 22 minutes of play should not start because those rebounds are all lucky bounces? :o

Who the f*ck cares, he is boarding, which is something we desperately need. It is funny, but if you look at his per 36 minutes, he is double what he has been for years. I like the one two punch of the both of them. Frye is at least making the best of his minutes, and the last game he shot 3-4. Let's give it some more games, and there are a ton of more guys that have way more concerns than Frye, including our coach.

Yup - it's not the guys we had that worry me, save Hak and Chilly, who are both so close to really helping us. It's the guys we added ... I really thought Brown would be better. Telfair is worse than I thought he'd be.
Price is looking useful.

I realize we wanted short contracts for minimal dollars and I think that's smart - but I'm not crazy about who we spent the minimal dollars on when there where other guys at the min. we could have used

Then again, maybe the FO really did say, let's get our ears wet this year i.e. into the tank. No point aiming for the middle again of the pack again.

Does anyone have ESPN Insider? John Hollinger just published something right now regarding our rookie Morris (Per DIEM).

Nope - could never justify paying for that.

anyway, we got Los Soles - he can tell us everything Hollinger can and make more sense doing it

I have dealt with the fact that Frye is soft ever since he signed with us but I'm done with the guy, he has absolutely no confidence out there. In the past I thought he was a part of our future but not anymore. Try to trade him for a pick and maybe a decent player. Start Morris
I like Draft Picks/Cap Space, long walks on the beach, and short youtube clips.
