Dallas fan here, would you trade Nash for that?

Post#1 » by Darren » Sat Jan 7, 2012 8:46 am

Dallas trades: Shawn Marion, Lamar Odom, Rodrigue Beaubois, Dominique Jones, right to Nick Calathes & Denver's 2nd pick
Pheonix trades: Steve Nash, Grant Hill, Robin Lopez

Dallas roster:
C - Brendan Haywood / Robin Lopez / Ian Mahinmi
PF - Dirk Nowitzki / Sean Williams / Brandan Wright
SF - Vince Carter / Grant Hill / Yi Jianlian
SG - Delonte West / Jason Terry
PG - Steve Nash / Jason Kidd

WHY FOR DALLAS?
1.With 3D plan in sight, they can amnesty Wood during the offseason.
2.They get back Robin Lopez to backup D12
3.They get Steve Nash to fill in void with Kidd's absence.

Pheonix roster:
C - Macin Gortat / Channing Frye
PF - Lamar Odom / Markieff Morris
SF - Shawn Marion / Hakim Warrick / Michael Redd
SG - Josh Childress / Jared Dudley / Dominique Jones
PG - Rodrigue Beaubois / Shannon Brown / Sebastian Telfair

Pheonix cut Ronnie Price before the trade.

WHY FOR PHEONIX?
1.Roddy B can start a new era for the Suns with Odom handling the ball. He's Monta Eliis clone.
2.They get back fan favorite Matrix.
3.They get DJ who's a prospect that look to set up teammates with his slashing game.
4.They get a good backup 1, Nick Calathes, who's playing well in Europe.
5.They get Denver's second round pick.

This trade can be made at 1 March 2012.

Any trade that gets rid of a scrub and sends 2 players to a contender who deserve to go and serve no purpose here now and returns any assets for the future should be considered .......

What assets are the Suns getting? Barbosa 2.0 and some picks in a range that could be purchased if the team saw value in those positions. Or maybe it's bringing back "fan favorite" Marion who adds 10-12mil to the cap for the next 3 years. But at least with Marion on a rebuilding team he can show all the young guys to be passive aggressive in getting their bobble head days.

Who's this "Wood" character?

lol, there's no way the suns cut Price instead of Telfair...

Darren wrote:1.Roddy B can start a new era for the Suns with Odom handling the ball. He's Monta Eliis clone.

"Monta Ellis clone" is being way too kind (his ceiling is Leandro Barbosa like someone mentioned) but I wouldn't mind Beaubois on the Suns, and he's only 2 mil on the books for next season. I would rather not have Odom here but atleast his contract is under team option for next season.

2.They get back fan favorite Matrix.

Meh. Not sure if Marion would like to be back here at this point in his career. Worst of all, he has 8.6 million guaranteed next season.

3.They get DJ who's a prospect that look to set up teammates with his slashing game.

I've never seen him play..his stats are far from impressive.

4.They get a good backup 1, Nick Calathes, who's playing well in Europe.

Who cares

5.They get Denver's second round pick.

Who cares lol.

I have no problem with trading Nash & Hill to Dallas if they want to play for a contender. Swap Denver's second with your first, and then the trade value comparison seems more fair. The main problem here is the total incoming salary for next season is around + $12 million which may hurt Phoenix when trying to land expensive free agents next season. Perhaps take on Childress/Warrick/Frye's deal which you can use the amnesty clause on in the summer if need be; throw in Jason Kidd (or substitute in place of Marion) if salaries need to match. He can then be "bought-out" or whatever and then resign with Dallas.

Didn't say we should do this trade just that it should be considered

If they still had barea to offer and a 1st round pick then it'd get serious

No thanks, Beaubois is nice, but everything else is just dead weight. Nash alone should be able to fetch a solid role-player and mid 1st draft pick.

Only trade Nash to Dallas if it includes taking Frye, Childress, and Warrick (and Hill). We'll take Odom, Kidd, Beaubois, and a 1st Round Pick. Terry would probably be included to match salaries, and we'd cut him so he could go back to Dallas.

Right now, we have zero team without Nash so unless someone makes a ridiculously lopsided offer, he stays. They can't trade him for bots and pieces without writing off at least this season, he'd be a rental if he didn't want to go where they traded him, rioting, angry villager, pitchforks and torches etc. And the teams that he'd like to go to if he wanted to move, have zilch to offer.
I'd say it's 50-50 or better he comes back on a new deal nest year and retires a Sun

One factor is that Nash is divorced and his family is living here. If he changes teams, he won't be able to take his family with him. This might be a big reason why he wants to stay. It would be with almost any conscientious person. Give him credit for not bringing his family into the discussion when asked about this issue.

Why would we want to rebuild with Marion and Odom? The rest are scrubs and a 2nd round pick? No.

Wait, so you're sending us long term contracts, a sort-of prospect and a second rounder for our expirings and a sort-of prospect.

Thanks but we'd rather keep the expiring contracts and go after Westbrook next year.
