Phoenix Suns Defense In 2013

Post#1 » by Twuan89 » Thu Oct 4, 2012 8:54 am

How do you think the Suns Defense will fare in the 2012-2013 season?

Its no secret that Dragic is an upgrade over Nash on Defense.

Wesley Johnson will be asked to defend the opposing 2 guards for the Suns.

Jared Dudley is a good defender he's probably our best perimeter defender.

Im interested to see what Michael Beasley brings as far as defense.

Do you think the Suns will have a better defense than last year?

As shocking as it may seem, we might miss Frye defensively. IIRC he was alright on that end.

We should have post problems, but should be fine perimeter-wise. I hear a lot that Scola is a bad defender, but I believe him to be gritty and, while not long, he definitely offers the shooter some resistance. I'm guessing that Scola/Markieff/Gortat can put up a decent post defense when playing against tall teams.

As a whole, defense should definitely be our biggest issue. tough.

Scola's defense isn't as bad as some people might think. He's a good post defender but we won't get any help defense from him. He doesn't protect the rim and rarely blocks shots. For Beasley it's all about concentration, he simply can't forget his man but I think that he has the athleticism to become solid on that end. Maybe put Dudley on the small forward if Beasley can't do anything against him.

I think i'm going to enjoy watching a second unit of Telfair, Brown, Johnson, Morris, and O'Neal. Telfair and Brown should already have some chemistry, and I think Wes should be a good fit out on the perimeter with them. Morris should improve greatly under Scola and JO looks like he is going to be a beast of an anchor.

If the Suns end up at least middle of the pack on Defense we will be fine.
