I don't want to know who you're voting for or why(because that's just going to cause arguments better reserved for the Current Affairs board), but it's important that you exercise your right to vote today.
Whatever the polls/projections are, elections are decided by voter turnout. So really...get your butt to the polling place and fill in your ballot. If you just google "polling place", it'll have you enter your address and give you your polling place.
I know that if you live somewhere that's not a swing state it seems pretty pointless to vote(voting for anybody other than Romney in Arizona feels completely useless, voting for anybody other than Obama in California feels completely useless, etc.), but remember, there are a lot of propositions on the ballot that affect you locally.
For example, look at the propositions for Maricopa County(where I'm registered): http://phoenix.about.com/od/citiestowns ... ballot.htm
Those are important propositions that will affect you in a very direct way.
So get off the RealGM and go vote, dammit!

+1
Also, if you aren't familiar with all state/local candidates and ballot questions/amendments take 15 minutes to brush up before voting. Voters are given a lot of power on these so just randomly picking things could really hurt. The other thing I've noticed, many times candidates are listed as "nonpartisan" when if you dig deeper and read a couple interviews you might realize they really aren't nonpartisan at all.
But anyway, VOTE TODAY!

Re: OT: Election Day! GO VOTE!
Its a much over rated plea to 'Vote' just to exercise your right to vote.
I choose NOT to vote AGAIN.
Its my right NOT to participate in this slanted corporate driven selection process. Our founding fathers did not create this system, nor did countless die to protect it.
We have been shanghied folks.
The process has been corrupted by big money and special interests... banking, wallstreet, and the military industrial complex control and influence the outcomes. We are going to need an entire generation, may be two, to die off before any real changes can be made. This 'either or' mentality has fostered a 'lessor of two evils' selection process. And what do we end up with ????
BTW, the local issues ... if they are important to you, then by all means. Make your mark.... but to think we actually have a say in the Washington Game is folly.
Pick your puppet.

Re: OT: Election Day! GO VOTE!
Frank, you make some solid points. I share your disgust with our current "lesser of two evils" system, which is why I voted third party.
But I heed the old saying, "If you don't vote, then you can't complain."
“If you are bored and disgusted by politics and don't bother to vote, you are in effect voting for the entrenched Establishments of the two major parties, who please rest assured are not dumb, and who are keenly aware that it is in their interests to keep you disgusted and bored and cynical and to give you every possible reason to stay at home doing one-hitters and watching MTV on primary day. By all means stay home if you want, but don't bull yourself that you're not voting. In reality, there is no such thing as not voting: you either vote by voting, or you vote by staying home and tacitly doubling the value of some Diehard's vote.” ― David Foster Wallace

Re: OT: Election Day! GO VOTE!
I voted by mail this year, which was nice because the other stuff on the ballot took a while to go through. I had to do a bunch of research, but hopefully it was a better educated guess than some.
In a way Frank is right, but if you feel the two party domination is getting out of hand, which it has for as long as I have been voting (1988), then a third party is the way to go.
I am disappointed in how much money has been spent on these campaigns. Special interests have gone crazy over the years, and the ruling on Citzen's united has made the issue 100 times worse.
What gets lost in the shuffle is the ability of appointing judges by whoever gets in power. The other thing is the 60/40 filibuster rule, which really allows the minority to kill any momentum in the economy, which we saw this cycle in congress.
However, we could have three states make pot legal.

Re: OT: Election Day! GO VOTE!
I am not impressed by some 'three named Monti' generalizing that those who dont vote are Stoners at home... and come on... at least give me VH-1. He is out of touch clearly. He even confirms my comment by advocating voting to cancel out some 'diehard'. Wallace is another blowhard with a viewpoint, and its not even supported well. Sure I could go vote third party, but until a viable third party is allowed to participate realistically my vote of abstinence is not to be discounted.
You should be 'inspired' to vote for not asked to vote against.... but that may be a political philosophy argument. It is one I adopted after being force fed the same mediocre half warm entree's of politicians over the past 20 yrs. It s doesnt look any better that its plated up on fine china as the menu is served up every time by
the same mai'tre d's.
Eat here enough and you realize you'll walk away with the same bland aftertaste.

Re: OT: Election Day! GO VOTE!
voting is very important, but i don't like the us election system at all.
there should be a basic concept:
whoever gets the most votes nationwide should win.
mathematically it is possible that a candidate gets the most votes nationwide but can not be president in the us election system.
there is no logic way to defend this.

There is reason behind it. It gives more power and attention to small and otherwise forgotten states. It's not a true democracy, you are right.
