Youth Movement

Post#1 » by bigfoot » Wed Jan 16, 2013 2:16 pm

Timely article
http://www.brightsideofthesun.com/2013/ ... s-wins-and

I'd roll out

PG Garrett 24 - Marshall 24
SG Dragic 24 - Tucker 24 -
SF Johnson 24 - Dudley 24
PF Beasley 24 - Morris 24
C Gortat 24 - Zeller 24

Then do my best to move O'Neal, Telfair, and Brown for future 2nd round draft picks. I'd apologize to Scola and let him know we plan to move him to a playoff quality team this summer.

God that's an awful lineup you came up with^^. Since Zeller, Garrett & Johnson are future free agents anyway I won't play them or the minimum. I don't see the interest to raise their value except if we want to keep them and (over)pay. I like the idea of a Marshall/Dragic combo even if Marshall hasn't shown anything yet...anything that reduces Brown playing time is great. Dudley needs to play, he's our glue/team spirit guy moving forward. I'd start Morris at 4 and give minutes at 3 & 4 to Beasley coming of the bench. 35-40 minutes for Gortat at center, rest of the minutes would go to Scola. O'Neal & telfair should be traded for any futire pick possible.

Marshall (33) - Dragic (15)
Dragic (24) - Brown (24)
Dudley (30) - Beasley (18)
Morris (32) - Beasley (16)
Gortat (35) - Scola (13)

8 players rotation to try to build some chemistry between those guys. If they play well you might be in a good position coming draft day to trade some of them if you need/want to.

I like it. I would play Scola more minutes, something like 20 , but overall I like these rotations.

Wheres that youth movement?

Scola playing 32 minutes, Brown getting 30 minutes, and a DNP for Marshall.

They said during the game that it wasn't going to start immediately and that they'd make decisions on playing time and other considerations (trades? releases?) during the 5 day break. I would not be surprised if guys like Telfair and O'Neal are dealt for picks in the next 5 days to free up playing time for Marshall, Garrett, Beasley (at PF with Scola possibly playing 5 at times), Johnson, etc.

Of course, I also won't be surprised if, after the 5 day break, Gentry once again rolls out Dragic, Dudley, Tucker, Scola and Gortat as starters and plays them 30+ minutes. Ultimately, they say the final decision will be a collective effort between Gentry, Babby, Blanks and..... wait for it..... Sarver.

Now that Gentry is gone the youth movement will commence.

Dragic/Marshall
Tucker/Garrett
Dudley/Johnson
Beasley/Morris
Gortat/Scola/Zeller

Move O'Neal, Telfair, and Brown for second round picks or waive.

Yeah, you guys have to realize that this youth movement they are talking about includes Beasly (he is only 23). He is going to be on the court a lot... gonna let him play through his mistakes and brain farts for better or worst. Like a lotto pick on a bad team when you just leave him out there.... sucks we have to treat him like a rook.

Not that it makes much difference to your argument, but Beasley is 24.

Something to mull over

Goran Dragic
Robin Lopez
Earl Clark

All traded away under Gentry's tenure

Kendall Marshall
Michael Beasley
Wes Johnson
Luke Zeller
Diante Garrett

All riding the pine on Gentry's bench.

To me it looks like Gentry was not very good at coaching young players. Hill and Nash loved him, probably because of the short practices.

It's not the coach's decision to trade or release players that falls on the GM. You also forget that Dragic would not be what he is today had it not been for Gentry.
