Yep, I brought this up in the Around the NBA thread. But it's sad, not funny. We gave them a pick. :(

Weird. Both teams should have just stayed put.

Hey, think they'd be willing to make a deal involving Dragic and a 1st? I hear this Brooks kid is really something. Said no one ever.... wait, actually, Lon Babby and Lance Blanks said that and went through with it! :banghead:

Who did they draft with the pick, by the way? Or is it a future one?

The pick went to Chicago. They picked Nikola Mirotic who is playing overseas right now.
Hill on Nash going to the Lakers: “That’s like transferring from Duke and going to Carolina.”

So to recap it all :

We replaced a Dragic who was playing like hot trash by Brooks, who was at least on the contrary a useful backup PG that season, and gave up a draft pick who's still in Europe 2 years after getting drafted and will remain away from the NBA for quite awhile, if not forever.
Dragic got to start in Houston the next season and go back to being a decent player, while Brooks played in China.
Then Dragic came back to Phoenix after Nash left, and after figuring things out, while Brooks returned to Houston, giving em a nice backup vet PG for the final playoff push after Sacramento decided to hand the point guard mins to their developing young players.

Good trade for everybody.

i am of the firm belief that Dragic going to Houston was VITAL to his development. Dragic was playing horribly when we traded him. We lost a pick to develop Dragic, its not that bad.

I agree with the poster above. Dragic found himself again in Houston. When he came to us he was averaging 7 points and 3 assists per game and was shooting horribly. He looked like a career backup at the time that could potentially wash out if he didn't get his shot together.

By the way the pick exchanged was the 23rd pick in last year's draft which was indeed spent on Nikola Mirotic, but he was immediately swapped in a deal for the 20th pick which was Donatas Motiejunas who is currently their starting PF. On the other hand, our GM has basically stated the rise of D-Mo resulted in the trade of Marcus Morris whom you guys only had to give up a 2nd rounder for so...this trade is basically the gift that keeps on giving for both teams. We fixed Dragic and gave him back to you along with Marcus Morris all for the price of a 2nd rounder lol.

It may have worked out well for Dragic's development but it was still a really idiotic trade. As much as Dragic was struggling that year you know who was playing much much worse? Aaron Brooks...

We gave up a better player, who was younger and on a better contract... and we threw in a pick on top of it all. Words cannot express.

Words can express.

Dragic in Phoenix that season was : 7.4 PPG on 49 TS% and 46 EFG%, with a 11.2 PER, 27 AST%, 21 TOV%.
That's beyond pathetic.

Brooks in Phoenix was a much better : 9.6 PPG on 53 TS% and 49 EFG%, with a 15.6 PER, 35.3 AST%, 16.4 TOV%.

Brooks was way better with us than Dragic that season, the pick we gave up amounted to pretty much nothing, and if we didn't trade Dragic, he remains a scrub.

If he wasn't sucking so bad we wouldn't have had to give up a pick to get rid of him. Brooks was also having a bad season in Houston, but he accomplished a lot more than Dragic had in previous years.

Getting traded to Houston was the wakeup call Dragic needed to pull his head out of his ass.
Gentry was coddling him way too much, going too soft on him when he was playing like he was drunk. Dragic decided to not give a frack on the court anymore once Barbosa got traded and there wasn't much more competition for backup PG, he needed to go. Minutes are earned, not given.

But of course it's so much more entertaining to bitch over everything.
