Best non-move Sarver ever made. Can we all agree on that?

Letting him go was a smart decision.

We knew his rebounding was below average and his defense sucked.

We knew he already had serious injuries.

We knew he was a bonehead.

We knew he wasn't the offensive force he once was as instead of getting his points in the paint and attacking the basket, he was just popping off the pick and roll and hitting jumpers. Sure he hit them with regularity, but come playoff time, a 6'9" PF who shoots 15 -17 footers is no match for a player who gets points in the paint.

Aside from a decent first year in New York, he has been such a bust. Defense? Still sucks. Rebounding? Still way below his potential. Injuries? Lots of em.

Gotta love how he still talks the talk about improving his defense and coming back from injuries to play hard.

Gotta love how he still acts like a bonehead and smashes fire extinguisher boxes.

He got his 100 million max and quit.

NY need to release Amare. His career is over due to injuries.
Eye, knee and more. Suns was good to let him go. Old Amare will never be back.

He should retire or take time off from NBA for few years to heal himself fully. Quick recovery is not helping him at all..

Amar'e is honestly done. He will show you flashes but it will be WORTHLESS because he isn't available down the stretch. It's sad seeing him go out like this though.

Letting him go was smart. You know what would have been smarter? Trading him for something before you let him go for nothing. You can say nothing was out there, but I feel like a good GM could have gotten something for the guy.

Stat was playing well off the bench before his surgery.... and he was happy to come off the bench too as long as it translated to wins... the bad? 20 million off the bench... when JR Smith is making 3 Million next to him.

Is his career over??

i dont think so... he is still good for 15 points off the bench.... only trouble is... at 20 Million a year, thats detrimental to the team overall.

But he is NOT close to retirement unless his knees are completely shot... which they arent....

JJ Hickson is the most the suns could have realistically gotten for Amare at the time.

Hickson is actually having a solid season for Portland and is averaging a double-double. He is playing like a beast and regardless, he would have been light years better than the top 55 protected second rounder they got from NY

almost ANYTHING would have been better than the haul they recieved for Amare, and they used the trade exception to sign HEDO TURKOGLU!!!! The incompetence of Sarver is bar none

FWIW, the Suns were in talks with Cleveland to get Hickson. During that time Phoenix put Cleveland on hold while pursuing Carlos Boozer; Cleveland then got tired of waiting and bailed.

Remember, teams are extremely hesitant to trade their top talent in that situation because Amar'e wasn't guaranteed to re-sign. It's a dicey situation.

And correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Cleveland going to include at least a 1st in that potential deal as well??? Not sure on that, I don't remember exactly. But I would hate to lose Amare for that at the time, but if we weren't going to sign him then you obviously take that deal over NY's

Hickson was "top-talent" back then?? Nah man he just had potential that's it. Cleveland was willing to take a risk and rent Amare so that they could please Lebron. I am sure they would accept the offer anytime we were ready. They never got Boozer either and a certain franchise player took his talents to South Beach as a result lol

When I say 'top talent' I'm not referring to Hickson directly I'm speaking in generalities; you can't just send Amar'e to any team and expect good talent in return when STAT might just walk away the next season.

Yes, we already know that. But like I said, the Suns were trying to get a better asset in Boozer at the time and Cleveland walked.

Obviously not, considering we didn't get him.

And then Cleveland traded Hickson for Casspi. :o It would have been nice to have traded Amare to NY for Lee, but NY knew they could get Anare for nothing, and thought they could get some assets for Lee, and in a way, they did.
