I like this signing, he was doing good for the Suns in Vegas, imo. Kind of reminds me of Raja Bell a little bit, tough defender and good shooter.

Okay, there is definitely a trade brewing here somewhere. 17 players on guaranteed contracts.
The question is, who is going to be moved?

He said he signed here because he got the impression that he was going to play, so it looks like McDonough has 6 weeks to finish his transactions to get the roster down to 15. I bet Smith and Lee are goners.

So if you are right rsvaj, it would then mean a guard is on his way out. So, is it Brown or Marshall? If itis neither, than it would seem that Goodwin will be playing many minutes in the DLeague.
I always assumed Goodwin would be featured in the D-League this season. Too many players in front of him. If he can beat Marshall or Brown out for playing time in practice/preseason games, then that's awesome, but I don't think Horny will give Goodwin minutes just on the account that he's the shiny new toy this season. Brown and Marshall are still the backups at the guard positions as far as I'm concerned. Archie is sadly on the outside looking in right now.

I think you are counting out Goodwin much too soon. He has one thing going for him that Brown, X-Mas, and Marshall don't have in their repertoire. The kid gets to the free throw line in bunches. He's not afraid of contact. I would be surprised if Goodwin doesn't see decent playing time this year, somewhere between 15-20 minutes per game.

I think our guard line will basically look like this:
Dragic/Goodwin/Christmas
Bledsoe/Goodwin/Brown
Hope we can get rid of Marshall till the start of the season.

Goodwin was rubbish at the PG spot at Kentucky. I don't understand why they keep trying to push him in that direction. He can be a very good wing...no need to turn him into some sort of creator when he's struggled with that role.
And I'm probably more bullish on Marshall than a lot of others, which surprises me since I absolutely hated the pick. I still think he's a completely one-dimensional player, and I don't think he'll be any more than a backup in this league(IF that), but I'm not giving up on him after only one season. As far as I'm concerned, the backup PG minutes are Marshall's to lose, and I hope he grabs a firm hold on that position.

From what Hornacek has said, I don't think there will be clearly defined positions save a few players that might not be able to play at two to three spots. So I could see Goodwin bringing the ball up here and there.
It seems easy to hate on Marshall for many, and if he is not traded, I don't see why he wouldn't see good minutes. The dude is a great passer, so if our guys can start to prove they can finish, he will be valuable as a backup point (since he really hasn't proved he can play the two). But that doesn't mean he won't play off the ball a few possessions.
Heck, I could even see Hornacek playing Len and Gortat together, as well as MkMorris at the five here and there.

Re: Suns sign Dionte Christmas
The cool thing about subbing Goodwin for either guard spot is that our starting back court is two point guards, no matter whom he subs for we'll have a point guard in the floor.
I like the signing because he's a hard worker that wants to succeed in the league and will continue to compete in practice to get a second contract. This is his shot to provide for his family and I like that we're giving it to him.

Brown can be delt for a 2nd rounder to a contending team. Yeah we hate this chucker in PHX. But he does have big game ability hes like a poor man JR Smith plus hes a veteran.
Dragic/Marshall/Goodwin
Bledsoe/Goodwin/Christmas
Morris/ Tucker/ Green
Morris/ Frye
Gortat/Len/Plumplee
13 man. Anyone else not on list needs to show in preseason they deserve a spot. Though Marshall has been a big disappoint to everyone he was a rookie last year this team isn't doing anything special soon so might as well hold on longer see if hes a late bloomer.

A's over Royals. Lester and experience will prove that he's worth the trade.
Tigers winning it all. Tigers are, imo, peaking at the right time.

Which contending team will be able to adsorb his $3.5 million contract? Unless we trade him along with someone else, there was no point keeping him, when we could have let him go for half his pay.

Re: Suns sign Dionte Christmas
If Brown ends up buried on the bench its no big loss. We might be able to trade him, while we would not have been able to trade the 1.75 mil in dead money we would have been stuck with when declining his option.
And competition for PT is a good thing. I have high hopes for Goodwin but if he does not beat out Brown for minutes then he might just not be ready right away, and thats no knock on him, the kid is barely 19.

Re: Suns sign Dionte Christmas
Brown is worthless. He put up a few decent games while scoring the majority of his points in garbage time. No contender would ever want him on their team because he hinders ball movement with his selfish play. He'd probably be happiest in the euro league earning mid level NBA money to put up 18-24 points a game against inferior players.
He also has no use on our team since his ceiling has been reached and playing him only hinders the development of our other players.
If we could trade him for a second round pick, that would be fantastic.
His ONLY use is to use him as a barometer for our other guards. Anyone who out plays him in practice gets NBA minutes. Anyone who doesn't outplay him in practice gets sent to the D-League until they can outplay Brown. LOL.

Yeah strictly financial reasons is what would keep him in PHX.
and LukasBMW, Shannon Brown is useless as a starter or your number 1 option. In PHX we relied on brown in 4th Q in alot of situations. That means we had a terrible roster. Believe it or not contending teams could use a guy like him off the bench. Hes high energy and on some nights in the right role can make a difference on a established roster.
