Based on some of his comments in the past year, it's safe to say Gortat feels the same way. Hopefully he gets his wish before he has no value left.

Was that really necessary? I actually agree with him on this one.

He makes a good point. Read any articles about Gortat last year, and you'd get the vibe he cant wait to get out of Phoenix. Why do you think his mindset wouldve changed over the summer, and just after we drafted his obvious replacement? By doing that we've shown that he's not part of our long term future. So, why would he suddenly change his mind? If anything he should be even more anxious to get out of the Valley

Yeah, it was necessary and no he does not have a point. There is no need to panic and make a bad trade for Gortat because some message board posters perceive his value declining and act like 13 year old girls who panic because the Justin Bieber concert has been announced and mom and dad have not rushed out to get tickets.

There are a lot of reasons that a trade has not been made, but the primary one is likely that there is no offer out there that Suns like and they will not make a bad deal just to make one. Sometimes it is better to take the space of having a free agent walk as opposed to take on bad players on bad deals or bad players on rookie contracts just to pay them to see if they can be "developed." If there is a deal to be made that the Suns want it will be made if not and Gortat wants to walk so be it.

As to him changing his tune, it really has not changed. Living in Phoenix and following this team closely since its inception in 1968, I'll give you a couple of observations. Gortat has never told any of the local press here that he wants out and has never told Suns mgt he wants out. The only article I saw where he mentioned anything about leaving was a bad translation of a Polish press article.

Last year he and other players were frustrated by what was going on with the team - lame duck head coach, followed by incompetent coach, departure of two favored assistant, mercurial line up changes and players, players getting playing time without earning it, etc... . The atmosphere around the team was as toxic and fractured as there has ever been in the history of the franchise. The only that other Suns team that came close was the 1987 drug scandal team where several Suns were indicted (Edwards, Humphries and a scrub named Gondrazick) partly on grand jury testimony of Walter Davis. Davis had immunity to rat out his teammates. Vanos died in an off-season plane crash outside of Detroit. Everyone was panicking. The Suns went into the next season with new ownership and most of the same players. The toxic environment improved, the tainted players were cleared from their legal issues and then the Suns executed a number of trades that helped turn around the team. Edwards and Bedford went to the Pistons, Humphries to the Bucks Nance and Sanders to the Cavs. The Suns let Davis walk at the end of the year without compensation. The point is you do not make stupid trades out of panic.

If Gortat's outlook has changed at all, its because the Suns new management and coaches have improved the atmosphere and management has embraced Gortat. McDonough had stated that he would like Gortat, Frye and Dragic all to be part of the next great Suns team. I take him at his word about wanting to be here.

Damn man, it's going to be nice to see a seasoned Suns fan like you post around here. Cool to here pre-90's stories.
I don't post much on here but I do lurk a lot and post on another board a lot more frequently. I'll def be here more to read what you have to say.

You don't have to answer if you don't want but how old are you? I only ask because I have mostly seen fans in their 20's post. Maybe once have I seen someone in their 40's (that I've been told at least). It's really cool to be able to mingle with fans who are more familiar with the 70's and 80's Suns teams as well.

Thanks for the nice words.

I'll decline on the age thing; lets just say it is a little north of 50 and leave it at that. But I will tell you that I am old enough that as a kid I entered the naming contest for the Phoenix franchise that became the Suns - I did not win. There were some odd entries mostly associated with desert vegetation or animals. I also went to the first game ever played between the San Diego Rockets and the Suns (exhibition) where Elven Hayes made also made his debut. I met Connie Hawkins at my dentist's office and my orthopedic surgeon's office back in the early 70s - he had the biggest hands I have ever seen on a human being. In 1989, I interviewed Jerry Colangelo for a hour and a half for a graduate business school paper i was writing on organizational changes - right after he bought the organization and in 1993, I drank beers with several of the Suns and mostly Joe Proski and his wife in an Atlanta Bar and Grill named Jock and Jills when the Suns were in the ATL for a exhibition game. The stories he told were amazing. They were staying in the same hotel. In May 2010, my two puppies were featured on the Suns website wearing Suns caps and I was 6th man of the month.

In other words, I have followed the Suns through thick and thin from their birth and will continue to do so until one of us dies.

All of my comments are from memory, (I have a very good one, though not perfect) and I do not comment often because this is generally a great group of knowledgable fans who seldom need my input.

I remember when the Gorilla wasn't there
I remember going to the Madhouse on McDowell
I remember Ladmo bags and even got one. Remember when he and Wallace were pushing real estate at Kachina Village (near Flagstaff) too.
Can't say I remember the Desert City Six.

Edit: Do remember when they had an organist at the Suns games instead of all the fancy light and noise they have now.

"Never play Lady of Spain ever again!" :D

I'm not as old as Frank, and JD but I remember a lot from early Suns from late 70s. I liked seeing games at the Madhouse. My dad would get tickets through our church's men's group, although my dad was never a big Suns fan. He has always been a NY team guy.

Reading the thoughts of intelligent fans always makes me happy. It seems to be a rarity nowadays.

I do. They played Dixieland Jazz and dressed in brightly striped shirts and straw hats in the corner of the arena. One of the best part of the Madhouse was entering and exiting the arena on the ground floor through the entrance tunnel that became the players entrance to the court. It was from the residential area east of the arena. Depending on when you got there you sometimes got to see the players up close and personal. When the Lakers were in town you could always see the groupies hanging out in the concours around that area.

The first Gorilla was a man - Henry Ramos who was actually Eastern Onion Singing telegram worker that came to the arena to deliver a message. He was so popular the Suns asked him back and eventually hired him. Some of the things he did were outrageously funny - dressing up like Jack Ramsey and Kareem... The later Gorillas have not followed in his footsteps.

I had Ramos so mad at me one night from 'effective' heckling, that damn monkey followed me out through the bottom entrance/exit and was posing for a fight.... in his Gorilla suit. My buddy interceded and thus, I never was awarded lifetime season tickets for being accosted by a mascot after a game. That was a funny night. We had earshot seats 15-20 rows up, right in the middle of all the players wives. Somewhat uncomfortable setting when Joel Kramer would be left in far too long. Sorry Mrs K.... goes with the turf.
